One or more embodiments include antimicrobial bandages with nanostructures, formation thereof, and usage thereof to facilitate wound healing. In one embodiment, a bandage apparatus that facilitates healing a wound is provided. The bandage apparatus includes a substrate having an attachment mechanism that facilitates removably attaching the substrate to a part of a body having the wound. The bandage apparatus also includes a nanostructure film provided on a surface of the substrate and configured to contact the wound when the substrate is attached to the part of the body having the wound, wherein the nanostructure film includes a plurality of nanostructures.

Techniques relate to forming a sorting device. A mesh is formed on top of a substrate. Metal assisted chemical etching is performed to remove substrate material of the substrate at locations of the mesh. Pillars are formed in the substrate by removal of the substrate material. The mesh is removed to leave the pillars in a nanopillar array. The pillars in the nanopillar array are designed with a spacing to sort particles of different sizes such that the particles at or above a predetermined dimension are sorted in a first direction and the particles below the predetermined dimension are sorted in a second direction.

Metal assisted chemical etching for fabricating high aspect ratio and straight silicon nanopillar arrays for sorting applications

A technique relates to a machine for sorting. A removable cartridge includes a nanofluidic module. The removable cartridge includes an input port and at least two output ports. The nanofluidic module is configured to sort particles in a sample fluid. A holder is configured to receive the removable cartridge. A pressurization system is configured to couple to the input port of the removable cartridge. The pressurization system is configured to drive the sample fluid into the nanofluidic module for separation to the at least two output ports.

Automated machine for sorting of biological fluids

A method is presented for forming a nanowire electrode. The method includes forming a plurality of nanowires over a first substrate, depositing a conducting layer over the plurality of nanowires, forming solder bumps and electrical interconnections over a second flexible substrate, and integrating nanowire electrode arrays to the second flexible substrate. The plurality of nanowires are silicon (Si) nanowires, the Si nanowires used as probes to penetrate skin of a subject to achieve electrical biopotential signals. The plurality of nanowires are formed over the first substrate by metal-assisted chemical etching.

Flexible silicon nanowire electrode

A method of fabricating ultra-thin chips is provided. The method includes patterning circuit elements onto a substrate such that sections of the substrate are exposed and etching trenches into the sections of the substrate to define pedestals respectively associated with a corresponding circuit element. The method further includes depositing stressor layer material onto the circuit elements and applying handling tape to the stressor layer material. In addition, the method includes at least one of weakening the substrate in a plane defined by base corners of the pedestals and initiating substrate cracking at the base corners of the pedestals to encourage spalling of the pedestals off the substrate.

Forming ultra-thin chips for flexible electronics applications

The method comprises contacting a silicon substrate with a silver salt and an acid for a time effective to produce spikes having a first end disposed on the silicon substrate and a second end extending away from the silicon substrate. The spikes have a second end diameter of about 10 nm to about 200 nm, a height of about 100 nm to 10 micrometers, and a density of about 10 to 100 per square microns. The nanostructures provide antimicrobial properties and can be transferred to the surface of various materials such as polymers.

Using a set of airflow sensors disposed on an airfoil of an aircraft, first airflow data including an amount of airflow experienced at each airflow sensor at a first time is measured. Using a trained neural network model, the first airflow data is analyzed to determine an airflow state of the aircraft. In response to determining that the aircraft is in the abnormal airflow state, a control surface and a power unit of the aircraft are adjusted. Responsive to the adjusting, the aircraft is returned to the normal airflow state.

Flexible electronics for wearable healthcare sensors

Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products are provided where fluid, such as a blood sample, is entered into a microfluidic channel in a microchip where the microfluidic channel possesses a micro/nanopillar array for sorting molecules by size. When the fluid passes through the micro/nanopillar array it is separated into particles of interest or particles not of interest or both. When particles of interest are lit by a light source via a first waveguide in the microchip connecting the light source to the microfluidic channel, then lighted particles of interest can be detected by an optical detector via a second waveguide in the microchip connecting the optical detector to the microfluidic channel. The information from the optical detector can be analyzed further by connecting the microchip to a mobile computing device with its own processing abilities or abilities via the internet or cloud.

A condenser portion that includes an entry port and an exit port. A separator portion that includes an entry port and an exit port, and a second array of pillars disposed between the entry port and the exit port of the separator portion along the channel length, the pillars operative to drive the first material particle towards the second sidewall of the channel.
