An external heat exchanger is used to transfer heat from a compressor lubricant to an expanded working fluid, thereby cooling the lubricant. The heat exchanger may also be used to sub-cool condensed working fluid with the same flow of expanded working fluid. A horizontal scroll-type compressor includes an intermediate lubricant sump between a main bearing support and a scroll member. A counterweight on the crankshaft can travel through the lubricant in the intermediate sump to splash the lubricant around. A horizontal scroll-type compressor can include multiple machined surfaces that are utilized to precisely center and align components of the compressor.

Compressor and oil-cooling system

A compressor may include a shell and a housing fixed within the shell. A compression mechanism may be supported by the housing and may include an orbiting scroll member and a non-orbiting scroll member that are meshingly engaged to form a series of compression pockets. A retaining assembly may include an axial retention member and a rotational retention member, each of which is engaged with the non-orbiting scroll member to limit axial translation and rotation of the non-orbiting scroll member relative to the housing.

Compressor with retaining mechanism

A compressor may include a shell, first and second scroll members, a partition and a first annular seal. The partition may be fixed to the shell and may overly the first scroll member. The partition may include first and second sides having a second discharge opening passing therethrough and being in communication with the first discharge opening. The first side may include a protrusion extending toward the first scroll member and generally surrounding the second discharge opening. The first annular seal may sealingly engage the partition and may be displaceable radially inward to a position abutting the protrusion to limit a radially inward travel of the first annular seal.

Compressor sealing arrangement

A scroll compressor includes a housing, a non-orbiting scroll member including a first spiral wrap, and an orbiting scroll member including a second spiral wrap. The first and second spiral wraps are interleaved to define at least one moving fluid pocket that decreases in size as it moves from a radially outer position to a radially inner position. A vapor-injection system may include a shell fitting in fluid communication with a fluid passageway of the non-orbiting scroll member via a vapor injection tube. The vapor injection tube may be fixed for movement with the non-orbiting scroll member for communicating vapor into the moving fluid pockets.
