Systems for facilitating wireless communication and related methods are provided. In this regard, a representative system includes: an electronic device operative to communicate using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, the device having a Wi-Fi monitoring system operative to: monitor Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) advertising channels; receive information corresponding to a Wi-Fi-capable device via BLE Advertisement packets communicated on at least one of the BLE advertising channels; and establish communication with the Wi-Fi-capable device using the information provided by the BLE Advertisement packets.

Various embodiments for handling an incoming call are disclosed. One embodiment is a method implemented in a media playback device. The method comprises establishing, by the media playback device, a connection with an output device and streaming, by the media playback device, audio content to the output device. The method further comprises receiving, by the media playback device, an indication from a communication device of an incoming call received by the communication device and responsive to receiving the indication, providing, by the media playback device, an alert corresponding to the incoming call.

Apparatus and method to improve WLAN performance in a dual WLAN modality environment

Disclosed is a method of using observed traffic pattern data to improve sleep mode efficiency in a radio handset. The radio handset determines quality of service (QoS) requirements of an application currently executing on the radio handset and selects a pre-defined sleep mode mask from among a plurality of pre-defined sleep mode masks wherein the selected pre-defined sleep mode mask provides the closest available match in terms of sleep/listen pattern to the QoS requirements. The traffic pattern data between the radio handset and a serving basestation is observed while under the initial sleep/listen pattern of the selected pre-defined sleep mode mask or the reactivated sleep/listen pattern after sleep mode deactivation. An alternate sleep mode mask is created based on the observed traffic pattern data between the radio handset and the serving base station wherein the alternate sleep/listen pattern is better suited to the actual traffic pattern than the initial sleep/listen pattern of the selected pre-defined sleep mode mask or the reactivated sleep/listen pattern after sleep mode deactivation.

Using traffic patterns to improve sleep mode efficiency in a radio handset

Disclosed is a method of selectively skipping one or more listen windows during power saving (i.e., sleep mode) operation in a multi-mode radio handset capable of operating on a plurality of radio access networks (RANs). A multi-mode radio handset signals a base station to which it is currently in communication to request that one or more listen windows be skipped considering the delay and jitter requirements of the most time critical application currently running. The request includes data defining a different listen and sleep window sequence. The multi-mode radio handset receives an acknowledgment from the base station indicating that the request has been granted. The acknowledgement includes a start frame parameter that defines when the different listen and sleep window sequence will begin. Upon completion of the different listen and sleep window sequence, the multi-mode radio handset reverts back to the original alternating sequence of listen and sleep windows.
