Haloamine biocides are prepared via multi-step processes in an integrated apparatus comprising an electrochemical cell and a mixing chamber, wherein active halogen donor species are electrochemically generated and subsequently reacted with amine-containing compositions to form haloamine biocide. Haloamine biocides prepared according to such processes are used to treat liquids in order to inhibit, reduce, and/or control microorganism growth therein.

Process and apparatus for generating haloamine biocide

Disclosed herein are hydrophobically-modified poly(aminoamides) useful as fixative detackifiers for stickies and pitch control in papermaking processes. These polymers are prepared via modification of amine-containing water-soluble poly(aminoamides) with reactive functional group-containing hydrophobic compounds. In particular, poly(aminoamides) may be modified, under appropriate reaction conditions, with long chain alkyl glycidyl ether, AKD (alkyl ketene dimer), ASA (alkyl succinyl anhydride), or Quab (3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl-N,N,N-dimethylalkyl ammonium chloride). These novel polymers are effective in inhibiting deposition of organic contaminants in pulp and papermaking systems.

Hydrophobically modified poly(aminoamides)

Methods for inhibiting the depositions of organic contaminants from pulp in pulp and papermaking systems are disclosed. Hydrophobically modified poly[ethylene glycol] are added to the pulp or applied to deposition-prone surfaces of a papermaking system.

An oil-in-water emulsion useful as a defoamer for pulp and paper mill applications is described. The defoamer has an oil blend (of a triglyceride oil or a mixture of triglyceride oils and silicone), a stabilizing agent (to make the oil blend stable in the emulsion), hydrophobic silica particles, surfactants, dispersants, and other components. The emulsion is usable directly at low concentrations to control foam.

Defoamer emulsion compositions for pulp mill applications

A defoamer made from a composition that has at least one triglyceride oil or triglyceride oil mixture, at least one silicone, at least one silicone-triglyceride stabilizing agent, hydrophobic silica particles, optionally one or more surfactants and/or dispersants, and optionally one or more thickeners, and optionally one or more biocides. The invention is also directed to a gelation storage stable reduced CPD-forming resin so that a composition containing the reduced CPD-forming polyamine-epihalohydrin resin, when stored at pH 1 for 24 hours at 50&#xb0; C. and measured at 24 hours, produces less than about 1000 ppm dry basis of CPD. A paper product containing the storage stable polyaminopolyamide-epihalohydrin resin, when corrected for adding at about a 1 wt % addition level of the polyaminopolyamide-epihalohydrin resin, contains less than about 250 ppb of CPD. Moreover, a resin can be prepared starting from a prepolymer having a low acid number or low concentration of acid end groups. The invention is also directed to papers containing the resins.

Reduced by product polyamine-epihalohydrin resins

Polysaccharides comprising one or more oxime linkages are provided. Methods for their preparation include the polycondensation of saccharides bearing oxime-forming substituents. In some embodiments, polymerization is conducted in the presence of galactose oxidase. The resulting oxime-linked polysaccharides have desirable properties and are useful in numerous applications including paper manufacturing and drug delivery vehicles.

A paper product containing the storage stable polyaminopolyamide-epihalohydrin resin, when corrected for adding at about a 1 wt % addition level of the polyaminopolyamide-epihalohydrin resin, contains less than about 250 ppb of CPD. Moreover, a resin can be prepared starting from a prepolymer having a low acid number or low concentration of acid end groups. The invention is also directed to papers containing the resins.
