In a field programmable gate array, a plurality of wire segments extend parallel to each other between two logic cells. Some of the wire segments extend to logic cell inputs and others to logic cell outputs. A power wire extends perpendicular to the wire segments and crosses each of the wire segments. Antifuses are disposed to couple the input wire segments to the power wire but no antifuses are disposed between the output wire segments and the power wire.

Programmable application specific integrated circuit and logic cell

A field programmable gate array includes a programmable routing network, a programmable configuration network integrated with the programmable routing network; and a plurality of logic cells ('modules') integrated with the programmable configuration network. Each logic cell is a powerful general purpose universal logic building block. Each logic cell consists essentially of four two-input AND gates, one or two six-input AND gates, three multiplexers, and a D-type flipflop.

A programmable logic array (100) includes a set of input terms which are programmably coupled to a first set of AND gates (102-1) through 102-66). The output signals from the first set of AND gates are programambly electrically connected to a second set of AND gates (104-1 through 104-66). The second set of programmable AND gates enhances flexibility of design and permits product terms with a larger number of factors to be generated. The output leads from the second set of AND gates are programmably electrically coupled to a first set of OR gates (106-1 through 106-22) which in turn are programably electrically coupled to a second array of OR gate logic (108-1 through 108-10). This also permits greater design flexibility. The output terms from the second set of OR gate logic can then be used to generate the output signals from the programmable logic array (100). In addition, a bus (110) is programmably electrically coupled to each of the output signals from the second OR logic array and the output signals (O.sub.1 through O.sub.10) of the PLA. Because of this, different output terms can be routed to different output pins thus permitting the designer to select his pin out independently of the availability of gate within specific parts of the array.

A structure for isolating a bipolar transistor (100) from an adjacent transistor includes a first silicon dioxide isolation region (110) laterally surrounding the transistor and a conductive channel stop region (112) laterally surrounding the silicon dioxide isolation region. The channel stop region allows electrical potential of the substrate (102) to be controlled and the silicon dioxide isolation region prevents the channel stop from contacting the transistor.

A bus organized 16.times.16 (or 8.times.8) high-speed digital bus-organized multiplier/divider for high-speed, low-power operation is implemented on a single semiconductor chip. Four working registers each of 16 (or 8) bits are used in the system. These registers are a multiplier register, a multiplicand and divisor register, a first accumulator register for storing the least significant half of a double length product after a multiplication of the remainder after a division operation, and a second accumulator register which stores the most significant half of the product after a multiplication or the quotient after a division operation. A decoder is connected to the multiplicand and multiplier registers to implement the Modified Booth Algorithm and to encode the 16 (or 8) multiplier digits. The system operates to shift the multiplier number through the multiplier register to a position where the Modified Booth Algorithm encoding takes place. The Modified Booth encoder then controls the operation of multiplexer circuits to which the outputs of the multiplicand register are applied to produce successive partial products. A carry/save arithmetic logic unit operates in conjunction with the registers to cause accumulation and storage of multiplication products and division quotient/remainders in the double length accumulator registers which provide a 32 bit output number.
