Methods and apparatus are provided for paging and random access response (RAR) scheduling and downlink control information (DCI) for a user equipment (UE). In one novel aspect, an SI-paging and a call-paging are transmitted separately, and scheduled by SI-Paging-DCI and call-Paging-DCI respectively. In one embodiment, a special PO is introduced for stand-alone SI-Paging scheduled by SI-Paging-DCI, and the special PO is different from the PO for call-Paging. In another novel aspect, SI-Paging is scheduled together with call-paging in the same PDSCH scheduled by call-Paging-DCI. In one embodiment, the SI-paging carries a value tag and a bitmap, wherein the value tag indicates whether any SI updates, and the bitmap indicates which one or more SIs updates. In another embodiment, the SI-Paging carries several valuetags, and the number of valuetag corresponds to the number of SI. The UE compares a current valuetag to a stored valuetag to verify whether a SI changes.

Paging and random access response (RAR) scheduling and DCI format

Aspects of the disclosure provide an apparatus that includes a receiving circuit and a processing circuit. The receiving circuit is configured to receive signals transmitted from a second apparatus to the apparatus and generate digital samples in response to the received signals. The signals have a plurality of resource elements. The processing circuit is configured to receive the digital samples, process the digital samples to generate symbols carried by the resource elements, detect control channel assistance information at a predetermined position of the resource elements and detect control information based on the detection of the control channel assistance information.

Methods and apparatus for control detecting and DL/UL format processing

Methods and apparatus are provided for repeated transmission. In one novel aspect, the RV sequence is selected from a predefined set of RV sequences for the repeated transmission. In one embodiment, the one or more RV values in the selected RV sequence are repeatedly used for the repeated transmission, by applying each RV value one by one to one block of repetitions cyclically, wherein the number of repetition in the block is determined by the repetition number and the length of the RV sequence. In another embodiment, the one or more RV values in the selected RV sequence are repeatedly used for the repeated transmission, by applying each RV value one by one to one repetition cyclically. In one embodiment, the RV value and the scrambling sequences are the same for the repetition blocks and a symbol level combination is applied.

Methods for repetition design

Methods and apparatus are provided for paging enhancement for LC-MTC devices. In one novel aspect, a new paging message is used. In one embodiment, a new system information (M-SI)-paging is provided either carrying a bitmap or being generated from specific M-P1-RNTI sequences to indicate the modified SI messages. In another embodiment, a new RRC-paging is used through a UE-specific message, a multicast message, or a broadcast message to inform a UE to establish a RRC connection. The new paging message is either a sequence or an encoded data packet transmitted without control information, or scheduled by M-PDCCH. In another novel aspect, the new paging message is transmitted within one or more cells by a broadcast mechanism to achieve a maximal CE level the one or more cells support, or a multi-cast mechanism to support a specified CE level range, or a unicast mechanism to support a CE level.

Enhanced paging for low cost (LC) machine type communication (MTC) UEs

Methods and apparatus are provided for cell access via the anchor carrier. In one novel aspect, the default bandwidth with a default subcarrier spacing in an anchor carrier is provided. The subcarrier spacing for the default bandwidth is the minimum subcarrier spacing of the numerologies supported by the system, depending on the frequency band and/or the deployment scenario. In one embodiment, one or more control information comprising SS1, SS2, RS, NR_MIB, and NR_ESI are received over the default bandwidth. In another embodiment, the Non-ESI information is received through one of Non-ESI carriers comprising a Msg4 during RACH access procedure, a dedicated channel for the UE as a user specific data scheduled by a SI-response message, and a broadcast data with a default or configurable period indicated for transmission by a SI-response message.

Methods and apparatus for cell access via anchor carrier

Methods and apparatus are provided for paging enhancement for the UE in the LC-MTC mode. In one novel aspect, the UE determines if the UE is in CE mode, obtains a set of narrow-band resource blocks reserved for LC-MTC paging messages and decodes a paging message based on the obtained narrow-band resource blocks. In one embodiment, the paging message occupies a predefined narrow band resource blocks without control information. In another embodiment, MPDCCH is used as control message to schedule narrow-band paging messages. In one embodiment, the MPDCCH searching space comprises a paging narrow-band selected from the set of narrow bands based on a UE ID. In another novel aspect, methods for PO detection are provided. The UE obtains a set of common paging narrow-bands from a higher layer configuration, determines a paging occasion to monitor paging message, decodes paging messages within the obtained common paging narrow-band, and performs combination.

Method and apparatus of enhanced paging

Apparatus and methods are provided to enhance HARQ mechanism. In one novel aspect, the UE decodes resource blocks in a HARQ indicator channel and detects a single-state HARQ indicator encoded with a UE ID of the UE. The UE determines a HARQ acknowledgment status for the data transmission based on the HARQ indicator. In one embodiment, the HARQ indicator channel is either a UE-specific channel, a group-specific channel or a cell-specific channel. In another novel aspect, the UE increases a HARQ count upon decoding the HARQ indicator channel. The UE retransmits the data transmission if the HARQ count is smaller than a predefined maximum HARQ count and the HARQ acknowledgement status is determined to be negative. Otherwise, the UE stops the data transmission. In another embodiment, the UE terminates the data transmission is the total repetition number is greater than a predefined maximum data transmission number.

Methods for enhanced HARQ mechanism

Apparatus and methods are provided to report channel status with transmission repetition. In one novel aspect, the mobile station computes a transmission efficiency for a transport block, which is repeatedly transmitted such that the transport block is received with a predefined receiving quality; determines a channel quality indicator based on the transmission efficiency and transmits it to a base station. In one embodiment, the transport block is repeatedly transmitted over multiple subframes. In another novel aspect, the mobile station computes a plurality of transmission efficiencies corresponding to a plurality of transport blocks, wherein at least one transport block is repeatedly transmitted such that each transport block is received with a pre-defined receiving quality. The mobile station determines one or more channel quality indicators based on the transmission efficiencies and transmits either the channel quality indicator with the highest efficiency or each channel quality indicator to a base station.

Method for channel quality report

Methods and apparatus of resource allocation (RA) for low cost machine communication type (LC-MTC) user equipments (UEs) are provided. A UE obtains one or multiple sets of resources in a mobile communication network. Each set of resources belongs to a narrow sub-band in a wider channel bandwidth, wherein the narrow sub-band comprises a plurality of contiguous physical resource blocks (PRBs). The UE determines a first set of resources from the one or multiple sets of resources based on a physical layer control signaling and transmits or receives radio signals using the first set of resources within a predefined duration. In a coverage extension mode, the UE determines a second set of resources according to a hopping pattern, while the first and the second sets of resources are occupied for transmission at different radio subframes. The UE then transmits or receives radio signals using the second set of resources.

Resource allocation design for low cost machine-type communication UE

Methods are provided for HARQ with channel repetitions. In one novel aspect, the user equipment (UE) receives the resource grant and determines the type of the grant as being the initial resource grant or the secondary resource grant. The initial resource grant carries full control information and the secondary resource grant carries partial control information. In some embodiments, the determination of the type of the grant is based on the RNTI or the payload size. In another embodiment, the UE performs data retransmission based on information from the secondary resource grant and the initial resource grant. In another novel aspect, the UE receives higher layer, such the RRC layer. The UE subsequently receives UL or DL secondary resource grant for both initial transmission and the re-transmission. The UE combines the parameters in the UE-specific configuration and the received secondary resource grants for its UL transmission or DL reception.

Methods and apparatus for enhancement for HARQ with channel repetitions

Methods and apparatus for obtaining a response message for CB access uplink transmission are disclosed. In one novel aspect, UE performs a CB access uplink transmission, selects a first group of radio resources for one or more candidate control-less response message blocks with corresponding transmission repetition number, retrieves and decodes one candidate response message block corresponds to one sub-group of resources in the first group of radio resources and determines if the candidate response message is intended for the UE. In one embodiment, the UE obtains the candidate response message by determining one or more repetition number and obtaining corresponding sub-group of resources from the starting point(s). In another embodiment, the UE determines one or more frequency locations to obtain the candidate response message. In yet another embodiment, the UE selects a second group of radio resources if no response message is detected within the first group of radio resources.

Methods and apparatus for enhanced contention based access response message

A method for obtaining scheduling information of a data channel is disclosed. The method includes: receiving a set of radio resources for a set of candidate control channels, wherein a part of the set of candidate control channels constitute the enhanced common search space (ECSS) for an enhanced physical downlink control channel (EPDCCH); attempting to decode each candidate control channel to obtain a physical control channel; and obtaining scheduling information of the data channel from the decoded physical control channel.
