The present invention provides adiabatic plug flow reactors suitable for the production of chlorinated and/or fluorinated propene and higher alkenes from the reaction of chlorinated and/or fluorinated alkanes and chlorinated and/or fluorinated alkenes. The reactors comprise one or more designs that minimize the production of by-products at a desired conversion.

Adiabatic plug flow reactors and processes incorporating the same

The present invention relates to a mixer, an apparatus comprising the mixer and a reactor, and processes incorporating the same. The mixer comprises an inlet () to a chamber (), wherein the chamber inlet angle is less than 90&#xb0;. The mixer further comprises an expander zone () that expands outwardly at an expander angle of less than 90&#xb0;. The mixer may be coupled to a reactor at its outlet, which may closely approximate the size of the reactor inlet due to the expander ().

Mixer and processes incorporating the same

The hardness of zinc sulfide is increased by adding selective elements within a specified range to the crystal lattice of the zinc sulfide. The increased hardness over conventional zinc sulfide does not substantially compromise the optical properties of the zinc sulfide. Isothermal multitube reactors

An apparatus includes a manifold with a chamber for mixing multiple reactants. Gases are jetted into the manifold by a plurality of inlet injectors. The inlet injectors are arranged such that the gases passing into the manifold impinge on each other at a common point to form a mixture. The mixture passes through a plurality of holes in one side of the manifold into a deposition chamber where the mixture of gases impinges on additional gases at a common point to provide a reaction resulting in deposition of solid materials in the deposition chamber. The solid materials are free-standing.

The system includes an apparatus with a drying vessel having a catalyst roaster belt inlet, a catalyst roaster belt outlet, a heating medium inlet, and a heating medium outlet, wherein the catalyst roaster belt inlet and the catalyst roaster belt outlet are spaced apart along a first direction, the heating medium inlet and the heating medium outlet are spaced apart along a second direction, the heating medium inlet is spaced apart from the catalyst roaster belt inlet in the second direction, and the catalyst roaster belt inlet is between the heating medium inlet and the heating medium outlet along the second direction. The system includes an acid bath and a moveable catalyst roaster belt extending from the acid bath through the catalyst roaster belt inlet and through the catalyst roaster belt outlet. The process includes the steps of providing a catalyst roaster belt with an inorganic salt disposed thereon and supplying a heating medium to a first side of the catalyst roaster belt such that heat from the heating medium flows through the catalyst roaster belt to a second side of the catalyst roaster belt to vaporize the inorganic salt.
