A millimeter wave base station antenna system having a multi-port antenna array and a baseband signal processor, the baseband signal processor having an uplink baseband processing unit for generating a first weighting function, and a downlink baseband processing unit for generating a second weighting function; the first weighting function and the second weighting function being used to enhance the desired signal and eliminate the multiuser interference.

Millimeter wave base station antenna system

It is known in the field that conventional single-port antennas cannot provide both advantages of high gain and broad angular coverage. It is also known in the field that, for modern mobile communication systems, the transmitted signals generally include not only information data, but also pilot signals, which are used for both estimating real time channel responses and facilitating signals reception. Therefore, through a proper baseband signal processing arrangement, it is possible to effectively combine sub-arrays output signals of a multi-port antenna to substantially enhance interested signals. The present invention therefore makes use of the resources provided by the pilot signals to construct a novel antenna structure having multi-port sub-arrays and a baseband signal processing function unit, to simultaneously offer the advantages of high gain and broad angular coverage. In addition, the present invention is particularly suitable for use in millimeter wavelength antennas.

The invention relates to a rake receiver and a method for de-spreading thereof. A plurality of noise branches is adopted for producing a plurality of noise components in the rake receiver. Next, a noise combining unit adjusts each noise component according to a plurality of noise weights, so as to combine the noise components to obtain an interference-plus-noise estimation value. The rake receiver eliminates the noises in the main signal generated by the signal branches through using the interference-plus-noise estimation value. Therefore, the performance of a receiving terminal can be enhanced.

A multi-meandered antenna with multiple bands and single input to be used in a vehicle wireless communication environment that includes an input end, coupled to a metal body of the vehicle for getting wireless signals, and at least one meandered antenna, coupled to the input end for transmitting or receiving said wireless signals. A novel design of high frequency hidden hand-held antenna which includes two metal arms above a lower arm of finite ground plane. By properly choosing the lengths of these arms and the separations between them, the bandwidth can be broadened more than 20%. Thus, it is suitable for personal mobile communication applications. A full wave equivalent circuit analytic model is also developed to analyze and optimize the geometrical configuration including the lengths and separations between the arms. Numerical analyses for current distribution on the conductor surface and various antenna characteristics such as input impedance and radiation patterns are computed by the use of the analytical models. Experimental results and numerical computations all confirm that better performance characteristics including broadened antenna bandwidth are achieved by this novel antenna.
