A low-cost security management system for a wireless network utilizes client software having one component that runs on trusted access points and another that runs on wireless client cards on a client PC and/or laptop that enables an administrator to log in and check the status of network security from any client pc. The software monitors the state of the wireless network and reports on unauthorized connections or hacking attack, denial of service attack and potential threats to the security of the network.

Distributed wireless security system

A network device, such as a router or switch, has a CPU and a memory operable to receive, store and output computer code. The code includes device configuration files, traffic pattern files, and standard-behavior-output template files adapted for detecting network device functional defects and bottlenecks. The device is operable in a testing mode to act as either a Device Testing Doctor (DTD) or a Device Under Test (DUT), in which it loads into or accepts from a related, interconnected and similarly configured and operable network device selected ones of the device configurations, transmits to or receives from the other device selected ones of the input traffic patterns, compares its own output or that of the other device in response to the input traffic pattern with selected ones of the standard-behavior-output templates, and detects a network device defect or bottleneck in itself or in the other device based on the comparison.

Automatic detection of functional defects and performance bottlenecks in network devices

Systems and methods are provided to facilitate the display of status information associated with a network device using a plurality of multi-function status indicators, such as light emitting diodes (LEDs). In one implementation, a network device includes a plurality of user-viewable status indicators adapted to display status information associated with the network device. The network device further includes a processor adapted to detect a plurality of event conditions at the network device. A logic circuit of the network device is adapted to determine first and second sets status information to be displayed by the status indicators. A control circuit of the network device is adapted to provide the status indicators with display states associated with the first and second sets of status information without requiring user interaction with the network device. The event conditions may be multiplexed to identify associations between the event conditions and the display states.
