A liquid crystal display (LCD) panel and a fabricating method thereof are described. First, a first substrate and a second substrate are provided. A liquid crystal monomer layer is then formed on the surface of at least one of the first and second substrates. Next, a curing step is performed to the liquid crystal monomer layer to induce a polymerization reaction, so as to form a liquid crystal polymer layer. Thereafter, the first and second substrates are assembled and a liquid crystal layer is filled between the first and second substrates.

Fabricating method of liquid crystal display panel

A method to control the pretilt angle of a liquid crystal device is disclosed. The claimed invention provides two substrates and at least one vertical alignment layers, which are fabricated on one side of each substrate and are opposite to each other. Moreover, a liquid crystal layer is sandwiched between the alignment layers, and the preferred embodiment of the liquid crystal device has an Optically Compensated Birefrigence (OCB) configuration. More particularly, before the process of alignment for the liquid crystal device is performed, a pretilt angle disclosed in the present invention is adjusted since at least one vertical alignment layer is treated with a particle beam generated by plasma or ions. The pretilt angle can range between 5 and 85 degrees.

Method to control the pretilt angle of liquid crystal device

A method that uses at least one hydrogen ion beam for alignment of liquid crystal molecules is proposed in the present invention. The method of the present invention is proposed to resolve the problems of physical destruction and surface deterioration of the alignment films caused by the conventional method using argon ions beams. The method of the present invention directly uses at least one hydrogen ion beam to impact the alignment film. Hence, the physical destruction of the alignment film is reduced. In addition, via the reaction between hydrogen ions and the alignment films, the quality of the alignment film is improved.

Method for alignment of liquid crystal molecules by using hydrogen ion beam in an amount greater than one hundred times that of non-hydrogen ions

A fabrication method for a liquid crystal display. A pair of substrates is provided. An alignment layer is formed on the respective substrates. An energy beam is irradiated on a predetermined area of at least one of the alignment layers. The alignment layer is rubbed to form a first pretilt-angle area in the predetermined area exposed to the energy beam, and a second pretilt-angle area not exposed to the energy beam. The pair of substrates are bonded with a preset gap therebetween, and a liquid crystal layer is inserted between the substrates. The liquid crystals corresponding to the first pretilt angle area have a first pretilt angle of &#x3b8;, while those corresponding to the second pretilt angle area have a second pretilt angle of &#x3b8;.

The structure is used in a reflective or semi-transparent liquid crystal display with lateral electric fields. The light collecting efficiency is improved by using multiple (two or more) dielectric layers with different refractive index as passivation layers of transparent electrodes, and by adjusting thickness of each dielectric layer to obtain the same optical path between the passivation layers and the transparent electrodes when incident light is transmitted.
