A method for booting a computer system is provided. In the method for booting the computer system, a memory space is created using a BIOS to simulate a virtual disk. The virtual disk is used to execute operations which have to be executed via a floppy disk drive. The operations are executed in the virtual disk via the BIOS. In addition, a second virtual disk is created for storing program files needed in installing the operating system.

Method for booting computer system

A personal computer component diagnostic method is executed to recognize the status or potential problems of a computer before executing an operating system. The personal computer component diagnostic method comprising: calling a BIOS program; executing a component basic diagnostic program; and executing a component functional test after executing a predetermined step. The component functional test includes a CPU MSR/MTRR test, a hard disk S.M.A.R.T. test, a boot path test and a PCI device scanning test.

Personal computer diagnostic test before executing operating system

A method and system for initiating a display chip in a computer system is provided, and the initiating system includes a non-volatile memory, an external storage media and a memory unit. A BIOS which is able to initiate the external storage media is stored in the non-volatile memory. First, a backup file is loaded into the memory unit from the initiated external storage media. Then, an initiating program is fetched from the backup file. Finally, the initiating program is executed to initiate a display chip of a computer system.
