A system for measuring a satellite ghost efficiency of a diffractive lens is provided. The system includes a light source configured to output a first probing beam, and a beam tweaking assembly disposed between the light source and the diffractive lens, and configured to convert the first probing beam into a second probing beam that is a non-collimated beam. The diffractive lens diffracts the second probing beam into a plurality of diffracted beams including a first diffracted beam of a parent diffraction order and a second diffracted beam of a satellite ghost diffraction order. The beam tweaking assembly includes one or more optical lenses, and an adjustable optical power. The system also includes a detector configured to generate a beam spot pattern including a first beam spot corresponding to the first diffracted beam and a second beam spot corresponding to the second diffracted beam.

System and method for measuring satellite ghost efficiency of diffractive lens

A device is provided. The device includes a light guide configured to guide a first light propagating therein. The device also includes an optical film coupled with the light guide, optically anisotropic molecules in the optical film being configured with an in-plane orientation pattern having an in-plane pitch along the predetermined in-plane direction. Within the in-plane pitch of the in-plane orientation pattern, azimuthal angles of the optically anisotropic molecules are configured to vary nonlinearly along the predetermined in-plane direction. The optical film is configured to diffract the first light as a plurality of second lights at a plurality of locations of the optical film, with a plurality of predetermined, different diffraction efficiencies.

Liquid crystal polarization hologram with enhanced angular luminance uniformity and system including the same

A device is provided. The device includes a first polarization hologram element configured to operate as a half-wave plate for a first light having a first wavelength, and as a full-wave plate for a second light having a second wavelength. The device also includes a second polarization hologram element stacked with the first polarization hologram, and configured to operate as the half-wave plate for the second light and as the full-wave plate for the first light. The first polarization hologram element is configured to forwardly diffract or transmit the first light depending on a handedness of the first light. The second polarization hologram element is configured to forwardly diffract or transmit the second light depending on a handedness of the second light.

Apochromatic liquid crystal polarization hologram device

A switchable waveplate includes a substrate, a first electrode layer on the substrate, an alignment layer on the first electrode layer and including alignment patterns formed thereon, a liquid crystal layer on the alignment layer, and a second electrode layer on the liquid crystal layer. The alignment patterns are determined based on angles of interest at a plurality of regions of the switchable waveplate. The liquid crystal layer includes liquid crystal molecules that are arranged according to the alignment patterns and are pre-tilted when no electric field is applied to the liquid crystal layer. The first electrode layer and the second electrode layer are configured to apply electric fields of different magnitudes to a plurality of zones of the switchable waveplate.

Spatially-patterned switchable LC waveplates for a wide viewing aperture

A device is provided. The device includes a first Pancharatnam-Berry phase ('PBP') lens, and a second PBP lens stacked with the first PBP lens. Each of the first PBP lens and the second PBP lens includes a liquid crystal (“LC”) layer. Each side of the LC layer is provided with a continuous electrode and a plurality of patterned electrodes. The patterned electrodes in the first PBP lens are arranged non-parallel to the patterned electrodes in the second PBP lens.

Tunable polarization holographic lenses

A polarization modulator includes a first liquid crystal cell and a second liquid crystal cell. The first liquid crystal cell has a first type of liquid crystals configured to rotate an optical axis of light parallel to a first plane of the first liquid crystal cell. The second liquid crystal cell is configured to receive the light from the first liquid crystal cell. The second liquid crystal cell has a second type of liquid crystals configured to rotate the optical axis of the light perpendicular to a second plane of the second liquid crystal cell.
