A method is disclosed, operating a mobile station in a wireless network system comprising a plurality of base stations allocated in N channels. A Data packet is transmitted at a time interval p to a first base station of the wireless network system to which the mobile station is currently connected. Each of a plurality of partial scan sections is performed at the interval of every M data packets to monitor messages from the base stations of the N channels.

Method for background scan in a mobile wireless system

A mobile station operating in a wireless network system comprising a plurality of base stations is disclosed. A communication unit receives the messages from a first base station of the wireless network system to which the mobile station is currently connected. A signal detection unit detects a first averaged signal strength corresponding to the messages received from the first base station. A processor determines a scan period according to the first averaged signal strength, performing a background scan, at intervals during the scan period, to monitor messages from the plurality of base stations within the wireless network system.

Data packets are received at a time interval p from a first base station of the wireless network system to which the mobile station is currently connected. A first period T is provided for a complete background scan monitoring messages from the plurality of base stations located in the wireless network system. The complete background scan is divided into a plurality of partial scan sections, each of which monitors base stations of one of the N channels. A second period M is determined for the partial scan section according to the time interval p, the first period T, and the number of channels N.

An authorization system of a navigation device includes a first identification (ID) module and a second ID module. The first ID module is arranged to perform authorization for a first portion of the navigation device, and the second ID module is arranged to perform authorization for a second portion of the navigation device. The first and the second ID modules perform bidirectional authorization of the first and the second portions, and further determine behavior of the navigation device according to a result of the bidirectional authorization. A method of controlling a communication mechanism utilized to arbitrate transmissions of a first and a second wireless signals and a communication apparatus utilized the method are disclosed. The method includes determining a transmission quality indicator corresponding to one of the first wireless signal and the second wireless signal, and dynamically turning the communication mechanism on or off according to the transmission quality indicator. Therefore, the present invention is able to arbitrate transmissions of different wireless signals while decreasing the occurrence of transmission disconnection resulted from the arbitration.
