A photoactive compound that is the reaction product of an alkenyl azlactone compound and a nucleophilic aromatic ketone is described. Mer units derived from this compound can be used, for example, to crosslink via a hydrogen abstracting mechanism acrylic polymers in which they are incorporated.

A pavement marking composition comprises a sulfopoly(ester-urethane) polymer which comprises in its backbone at least one non-terminal arylene or alkylene group comprising a pendant sulfonic acid group or salt thereof, the polymer of said pavement marking composition being terminated by at least one hydrolyzable silyl group. A method of making the composition is disclosed. The pavement marking composition can further comprise at least one of pigments, optical elements, fillers, or other adjuvants. Particularly desirable adjuvants include optical elements, particularly retroreflective elements, skid-resistant particles, and pigments.

The invention provides novel acrylamide functional disubstituted acetyl aryl ketones and a process for their preparation in high yields uncontaminated by difunctional material. The invention further provides photocrosslinkable compositions comprising one or more ethylenically-unsaturated monomers and as photoinitiator the acrylamide functional disubstituted acetyl aryl ketone of the invention. The compositions are useful for the preparation of films and coatings, particularly pressure-sensitive adhesive coatings.

A novel class of heterocyclic polymers and copolymers containing the 2-imidazolin-5-one ring structure is described. These polymers are prepared by reaction of bisazlactones and diamines, with or without suitable condensation monomers; the resultant polyamides are then thermally cyclodehydrated in the presence of a catalyst to produce the imidazolinone-containing polymers. Many of the poly(imidazolinones) are water soluble and therefore find utility in various aspects of water treatment, or in paper or fabric sizing.

A padded stocking, suitable as footwear in conjunction with a ski boot or the like, is provided comprising a stocking having affixed to the ankle and shin region thereof a conformable layer of a visco-elastic material, such as a flexible open-cell polyurethane foam impregnated with an acrylic resin, which functions as a padding, said conformable layer having retarded deformation and recovery characteristics such that said layer with a thickness of at least 1/8 inch has a compression modulus of 1 to 15 pounds per square inch when measured at a deformation rate of 2 inches per minute and a plot of said compression modulus versus time yields a curve with a slope of -0.3 to -2.0 pounds per square inch per second when said layer is compressed at deformation rates of 2 to 20 inches per minute.
