The disclosed computing device may include electronic components, at least one of which is a processor. The computing device may also include a heat sink thermally coupled to the electronic components, as well as a temperature sensor that determines the current temperature inside the computing device. The computing device may further include a controller. The processor may generate a load schedule for the electronic components based on the current temperature inside the computing device. This load schedule ensures that a maximum temperature for the heat sink is not exceeded even when the total system power load exceeds, for a short period of time, the maximum sustainable power level the heat sink can dissipate. The controller may then load the electronic components according to the generated load schedule. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

An apparatus for performing history matching for Lempel-Ziv ('LZ') compression includes a symbol history RAM comprising 2N bit entries, each entry corresponding to a symbol value represented by S bits and indicating locations within the last N symbols of input data where the symbol value occurred; a symbol counter array comprising 2counters, each counter corresponding to a symbol value and indicating a number of symbols processed since the last occurrence of the symbol value in the input data; and a barrel shifter configured to shift the entry corresponding to an input symbol value left by a number of bits based on a value of the counter corresponding to the input symbol value to produce a symbol match vector for the input symbol.

Data matching for hardware data compression

In an apparatus and method of transforming a block of data elements, the order of the data elements is transformed. The data elements are stored in an initial order in respective ones of first and second memory elements, each first memory element corresponding to a respective second memory element. The contents of all respective pairs of the first and second memory elements are compared. The data elements in the second memory elements are shifted to different ones of the second memory elements after each comparison while maintaining the initial order of the data elements. The shifts and comparisons are repeated until every data element has been compared with every other data element. The results of the comparisons are combined after each comparison to provide a result that can be used to order the data elements to a final order.
