Two rows of insulation displacement contacts are received in a connector housing. The contacts each comprise an insulation displacement end, a medial portion and a tail end. The medial portions are arranged across the housing body in grooves and the tail portions of the two rows extend from the housing in a common plane. Two non-proximate contacts of each row are connected at their medial portions by a capacitative coupling member which may comprise a chip capacitor or a pair of conducting plates connected by a bridge portion.

Crosstalk correction in electrical connectors

An electrical connector has a shutter arrangement which moves in the direction of plug insertion. The shutter has tabs which slide in grooves in the housing and grooves which pass over conductors in a plug receiving chamber. The shutter is moved to the back of the chamber when a plug is inserted and is biased by a spring to return to close the chamber when the plug is removed. The spring is formed of a pair of interconnected Z-shaped portion. On movement of the shutter in the direction of plug insertion, a free end of each portion moves in the shutter movement direction whereas an intermediate portion of each Z-shaped portion moves in a transverse direction.

Shuttered electrical connector

A panel mounted angled modular jack assembly allows a mating modular plug to be inserted at an angle to the panel while permitting the jack contact assembly to be inserted perpendicular to the panel. A printed circuit board terminating ends of the contacts is mounted parallel to the panel allowing conductors to be terminated on an insulation displacement strip located on the board terminal in a direction perpendicular to the board and the jack mounting panel.

Electrical connector

A printed circuit board mountable connecting block of the type described in U.S. Pat. No. 4,964,812 is provided with electrical contacts which include an insulation displacement slot at one end and a circuit mountable tail at the other end. This tail may comprise a conventional solder tail, or in a preferred embodiment, may comprise a 'solderless' press-fit tail. The connecting block of this invention may be mounted directly onto (e.g., through) a printed circuit board (or other electronic component). It will be appreciated that this circuit mountable feature is required and advantageous for many applications. In addition, the use of a solderless connector means (preferably a press-fit tail) is particularly advantageous for providing ease of assembly as well as lower cost (relative to conventional solderable tails).

Wire termination block

An electrically enhanced wiring block with break test capability employs a printed circuit board which includes integrally defined transmission lines and capacitive elements designed to improve impedance characteristics and electrical balance between interconnected wiring and connecting strips and thereby optimize its transmission performance. The transmission lines consist of impedance controlled circuitry with integral capacitive elements that are provided by means of a novel use of plated through holes. The holes may be sized, spaced and interconnected in various configurations to generate the desired capacitance. Two rows of connecting blocks with a row of connecting strips therebetween are mounted to one side of the circuit board preferably by solderless connectors and are interconnected by circuitry on the circuit board. The capacitive elements are connected between selected leads of the connecting blocks and connecting strips by the impedance controlled circuitry. The circuit board is mounted onto a bracket which is itself mounted onto a wiring block base. A series of disconnect plugs are provided for breaking electrical connection between selected connecting block positions by separating contacts with selected connecting strip positions. Also, a series of modular jack test assemblies are provided for testing and at other times when modular jack connection is desired. The modular jack test assembly comprises a modular jack mounted on a circuit board having edge contacts for mating with the contacts of the connecting strip.

The present invention presents an improved clip and an improved block wherein the material requirements for the clip are reduced and transmission performance for the assembly is improved. The present invention also presents a method of manufacturing the improved clip. The clips are of the type generally referred to in the art as 66 type clips. The clip of this invention has an oval opening with parallel sides between the base and that portion of the clip which holds the wire; and the oval aperture is flanked by arm portions of diverging width from the top of the aperture to the bottom of the aperture. In other words, the sides of the arms adjacent to the aperture are parallel, and the sides of the arms remote from the aperture diverge outwardly. This makes the arms thicker in width as they approach and join the base. This construction achieves the important advantage of a tapered beam element, which is well known to result in superior stress distribution than beams whose thickness is uniform. The design of the tapered arm portions of the present invention thereby produces equal or slightly higher normal forces than the prior art 66 clips with approximately 25 percent less material. Also, when displaced by a terminated wire, the clip of the present invention provides higher normal force than the prior art clip described in U.S. Pat. No. 5,127,845, which has greater material content.

A wiring block, in accordance with the present invention, comprises a base having at least one wiring strip snap lock mounted thereto and having a leg assembly snap lock mounted at each end of the base. The leg assemblies provide a space behind the wiring block (when mounted) for cables/wires that are to be terminated at the wiring block. The detachable leg assemblies are an important feature of the present invention as they provide for improved cable/wire management during installations, moves and changes, as compared to that of the prior art. The base has openings between selected wiring strips for allowing cables/wires to pass through also improving cable/wire management. Further, the wiring strip includes spaced notches to facilitate wiring thereto.

Wiring block having detachable leg assemblies

A patch panel for optical fibers includes a tray for supporting coiled portions of the fibers, a plurality of transversely spaced apart tabs, spaced backwardly from the front end of the tray and extending perpendicularly upwardly from the tray and a plurality of modular connector assemblies each slidably mounted on said tray between respective pairs of adjacent tabs. The modular connector assemblies each include a modular connector yoke for mounting optical fiber connectors on the tray. The tray includes tracks for slidably mounting the tray in a rack.

Fiber optic patch panel

A connecting block is provided which comprises two interlocking parts including a retainer and a snap-on cover. Both the retainer and cover include internal cavities which are sized to receive a plurality of spaced terminal clips and retain the clips in a precise orientation. Each of the terminal clips has a novel V-shaped configuration wherein a stripping slot is located at the base of the V. Two embodiments of clips are disclosed including a single contact and a dual contact clip. Both the single and dual contact clip embodiments include cantilevered members for circuit testing. Thus, the connecting block of this invention will permit either parallel test access or break test access.

Connector block and terminal

An electrical connector which is particularly useful in conjunction with printed circuit boards is presented. The connector is easy to assemble and therefore entails relatively low manufacturing costs. The connector of this invention is also easy to operate, permits a multiplicity of wiring changes over the product life and takes up very little area on the printed circuit board. In accordance with the present invention, the electrical connector is comprised of three main insulative component parts including a housing, a cover received in the housing and a screw mechanism which is captured in the cover and which functions to raise and lower the cover within the housing. The connector of this invention additionally includes a plurality of electrically conductive insulation displacement (IDC) type terminals which are received through the housing and which cooperate with appropriate openings in the cover. Thus, when an individual wire lead is inserted into one of the openings in the cover, the screw mechanism is actuated forcing the cover downwardly against a terminal whereupon an individual wire lead is terminated in a known manner.

Printed circuit board connector

A combined transient voltage and sneak current protector is presented. The protector device comprises a two-piece substantially rectangular insulative housing. The housing has four spaced and aligned openings at the bottom thereof for receiving upstanding terminals from a terminal block. The interior of the housing is loaded with four contact members which are adapted to effect electrical connection with a three element surge suppressor (e.g. transistor) and a pair of small cylindrical fuse elements. Each of the four contact members include a female connector communicating with the four aligned openings in the housing. The housing interior also includes a ground contact which electrically connects to the middle element on the surge suppressor. The ground contact passes through a lateral opening in the housing for mating with a novel plug-on grounding bus connector.

Combined transient voltage and sneak current protector

The patch connector comprises separable upper and lower housing portions and a double detent structure for joining the two oppositely disposed housing portions. The housing portions are snapped together to define a housing having exposed contacts on a front face thereof for accessing terminals from a terminal block; and at least one opening on the back face thereof for entry and exit of a cable or individual wires. The interior of the housing is provided with structure for retaining isolated electrical connector clips. Among other applications, the patch connector may be used as a means to electrically connect multiple insulated wires on terminals of a terminal block.
