A surgical theater apparatus for suspending from a ceiling structural member of a hospital includes a central hub mountable to the ceiling structural member to rotate about a rotation axis. The hub has a pivot axis spaced apart from the rotation axis. First and second devices, such as surgical lights, a cameras, and monitors, are mounted to a first end of a first device arm and a first end of a second device arm, respectively. A second end of the first device arm is mounted to the hub for movement about the rotation axis and about the pivot axis. A second end of the second device arm is mounted to the hub for movement about the rotation axis. The pivot axis and the rotation axis are parallel.

Surgical theater system having light, monitors, and cameras

A surgical light apparatus includes a hub assembly configured to be attached to a ceiling, and an arm coupled for pivotal movement about the hub assembly. In certain embodiments, a monitor is mounted on a monitor mount attached to the arm. The monitor mount includes a handle on which a first actuator is mounted. A video input controller is electrically coupled to the monitor. The video input controller includes a first channel input having a video coupling for attachment to a first video input device providing a first video feed, a second channel input having a video coupling for attachment to a second video device providing a second video feed, and a channel controller coupled to the monitor, the first channel input, and the second channel input. The channel controller is coupled to the first actuator and is configured to select a video feed to the monitor in response to actuation of the first actuator. In certain embodiments, a camera mount is mounted to the arm. The camera mount includes a handle on which a second actuator is mounted. A camera is mounted on the camera mount. The camera includes an on/off function, automated zoom capabilities, and automated focus capabilities. Actuation of the second actuator controls the on/off function of the camera.

Controls for a surgical theater system

A surgical video system captures an image of a surgical procedure and displays the image on a video monitor remote from the surgical procedure. The system includes at least one surgical lighthead , a video monitor , and a digital video camera integrated into the surgical lighthead. The digital video camera forms part of a modular digital video camera unit that is conveniently removable from the surgical lighthead so that camera units having different functionalities and capabilities can be selectively substituted as needed. A control unit is operatively connected to the video camera and generates command signals that are executed by the modular camera unit to rotate the image of the surgical procedure displayed on the video monitor by at least 360&deg; and to effect image zoom operations. The control unit is responsive to input signals from multiple sources including a hand-held IR/RF remote transmitter module , a wall mounted keypad , and a footswitch . Associated with the control unit and the video monitor, a recorder is provided for archival of video image data.
