Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for replication of versions of an object from a source storage to a target storage. A source retention policy indicates at least one source retention requirement to determine when to expire versions of an object at the source storage and a target retention policy indicates at least one target retention requirement to determine when to expire versions of the object at the target storage. The source and target retention requirements for versions of the object are different. The source retention policy is used to expire at least one version of the object at the source storage to satisfy the at least one source retention requirement. A number of the versions of the object maintained at the source storage and target storage differ due to the different source and target retention requirements.

Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for using geographical location information to provision multiple target storages for a source device. A determination is made of a geographical location of the source device and a distance between the source device and each of the target storages and between each pair of target storages. A determination is further made of qualifying k-tuples of the target storages, wherein each k-tuple comprises a group of k target storages to which the source data is to be backed-up. A qualifying k-tuple has one target storage that satisfies a distance requirement with respect to the source device and a distance between any two target storages in the k-tuple satisfies the distance requirement. A selected qualifying k-tuple is indicated to use to backup the source data at the k target storages in the qualifying k-tuple.

Data objects are replicated from a source storage managed by a source server to a target storage managed by a target server. A source list is built of objects at the source server to replicate to the target server. The target server is queried to obtain a target list of objects at the target server. A replication list is built indicating objects on the source list not included on the target list to transfer to the target server. For each object in the replication list, data for the object not already at the target storage is sent to the target server and metadata on the object is sent to the target server to cause the target server to include the metadata in an entry for the object in a target server replication database. An entry for the object is added to a source server replication database.

Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for using geographical location information to provision one or more target storages for a source device. A determination is made of a geographical location of the source device and of geographical locations of the target storages. A determination is made of one of the target storages whose distance from the source device based on the geographical locations of the source device and the target storages satisfies at least one distance requirement. A configuration procedure is initiated to configure the source device and the determined target storage to have the source data backed-up from the source device to the target storage over the network.

Provided are techniques for managing backup operations from a client system to a primary server and secondary server. A determination is made at the client system of whether a state of the data on the secondary server permits a backup operation in response to determining that the primary server is unavailable when a force failover parameter is not set. The client system reattempts to connect to the primary server to perform the backup operation at the primary server in response to determining that the state of the data on the secondary server does not permit the backup operation. The client system performs the backup operation at the secondary server in response to determining that the state of the secondary server permits the backup operation.

A novel combination of a biocide (Glutaraldehyde), a surfactant (BAK), in an alcohol/water solution, plus functional excipients. The Glutaraldehyde and BAK are combined in specific concentrations in an alcohol-solution form, with the other functional excipients specifically for the intended application. An embodiment for the oil and gas recovery industry is described in which the excipients Glutaraldehyde and cidal agent and BAK surfactant synergistically improve oil recovery. An embodiment for the in the healthcare industry (e.g., medical instrument sterilization) is described in the form of an immersion solution, spray, or pre-moistened cleaning wipette, with excipients including Trienthanol Amine, Glycol Ether, and Sulfonic Acid and water. In both cases the Glutaraldehyde in combination with the BAK works in synergy to kill bacteria and especially SRBs more effectively. The foregoing constituents are combined in preferred concentrations within acceptable ranges to provide a synergistic neoteric formulation that combines biocidal molecules in a biological chemical system that actively transports itself into the cells, through biofilm and cell wall/membranes, thereby overcoming penetration restraints to improve kill and kill time, without the need for activation or any time or temperature control. This is an effective example of synergistic complementarity.
