Compositions, medicaments, and methods for the promotion of hair growth are disclosed. These compositions and medicaments are comprised of either local anesthetics of the secondary or tertiary amino type and/or niacin. The preferred secondary and tertiary amino compounds include those which are esters of para-aminobenzoic acid, esters of benzoic acid, esters of meta-amino benzoic acid, amides, ethers, and ketones. The preferred compositions and medicaments include either procaine hydrochloride or niacin or procaine hydrochloride and niacin in a non-sulfur-containing carrier. The disclosed compositions and medicaments may be topically applied to a scalp in need thereof by an eyedropper or other suitable means. An improved embodiment of this application adds minoxidil. Another improved embodiment administers Propecia&trade; orally while the anesthetic (e.g., procaine hydrochloride) and niacin are administered topically.

Methods and compositions for the promotion of hair growth

Low potency, preservative free sterile topical anti-inflammatory steroid compositions are to be applied to the area surrounding the eye. The compositions involve, for example, sterile gauze pads in a sterile package, as well as single-use capsules and tubes for dispensing the medicinal composition.

Apparatus and method for simulation of visual disabilities

A clamp is placed over the bridge of the nose to apply pressure over the fossa of the nasolacrimal sac, prior to ocular medication to thereby seal the nasolacrimal sac and prevent drainage of medicament away from the eye. The clamp can be embedded in a flexible molded positioning device which has been molded to fit the shape of the bridge of the nose. In an improved embodiment the embedded clamp in a flexible molded positioning device is attached to a modified eyeglass frame. In a further embodiment a band to go around the back of the head or around the ears can be attached to the clamp.

Contact lenses with contoured anterior surfaces are employed to obtain informed consent from a patient prior to ophthalmic surgery. These modified contact lenses with contoured surfaces, when worn by a patient, will mimic visual distortions which might result from various types of corneal surgery.

The disclosed invention is directed to lenses to be worn with eyeglasses. The light transmission or field of vision of the lenses has been so modified as to produce visual distortions simulating various eye conditions and particularly simulated possible postoperative visual distortions and anomalies. Various modifications to conventional eyeglasses are disclosed.

A pharmaceutical composition for treating blepharitis or blepharoconjunctivitis is disclosed for topical administration comprising a nitroimidazole, as metronidazole, in a suitable ophthalmic carrier to be applied directly to affected ocular tissues. The carrier may be an artificial tear solution, an ointment, a water soluble gel, a nonaqueous carrier or an eyelash shampoo.

A method of treating a patient having one or more warts includes the steps of: applying to the wart an amount of a composition consisting essentially of an anthralin active ingredient and a pharmaceutical carrier; covering the wart and skin areas peripheral to the wart with an adhesive tape, such that the adhesive tape adheres to peripheral skin areas, whereby the adhesive tape provides an occluding environment for the wart treated with the composition. The occluding environment is maintained for a desired period of time, and the adhesive tape is removed. For a number of times as desired, a fresh amount of anthralin-containing composition is applied, and a fresh piece of adhesive tape is applied to recreate the occluding environment.
