A method is provided for treating a waste stream by contacting the waste stream sequentially with a consortium of prokaryotic microorganisms, preferably purple non-sulfur bacteria, followed by a the green algae Chlorella. The consortium of prokaryotic microorganisms assimilate a first portion of the wastes, and the green algae assimilate the remaining portion of the wastes to produce a substantially purified effluent stream. Isolated microorganisms made by the above method are valuable commercial products.

Method for treating a waste stream using photosynthetic microorganisms

The present invention is directed to a method for treating a waste stream by contacting the waste stream sequentially with a consortium of prokaryotic microorganisms, preferably purple non-sulfur bacteria, followed by a the green algae Chlorella. The consortium of prokaryotic microorganisms assimilate a first portion of the wastes, and the green algae assimilate the remaining portion of the wastes to produce a substantially purified effluent stream. The process of the present invention preferably includes a photobioreactor in order to increase the amount of light made available to the photosynthetic microorganisms, and result in improved uptake of waste materials from the waste stream.

A combination of a glove worn by a user and a ball and stretchable member removably attached to the glove is disclosed. The ball is permanently attached to one end of the stretchable member, and the other end is attached to an anchor which is removably attached to the palm of the glove, so that the user can slap the ball and be assured of its return. The stretchable member is adjustable in size and the ball may be of any desired size and structure. Additionally, the glove may be worn on either hand.

An amusement device is comprised of a dumbbell arrangement including a first thin semi-spherical half shell having a first open end, a second thin semi-spherical half shell having a second open end, a first foam filler material secured in the first half shell and extending partially out of the first open end to define a first non-skid playing surface, a second foam filler material secured in the second half shell and extending partially out of the second open end to define a second non-skid playing surface, and a telescoping connecting shaft connecting the first and second half shells, the shaft extending through the first and second filler materials and having opposite ends for connecting the first and second half shells, respectively, the shaft having a length sufficient to separate the first and second half shells in spaced apart relation with the first and second playing surfaces in spaced, opposing relation and to collapse the dumbbell arrangement into a ball configuration; and a baton for twirling the dumbbell arrangement, the baton having opposite ends, one of which is capable of being grasped by a person and the other of which is capable of engaging against the first and second non-skid playing surfaces to twirl the dumbbell arrangement, the baton being capable of storage in the passages in the first and second filler materials when the dumbbell arrangement is collapsed.

Interactive baton and dumbbell type amusement device

A doll and flower-in-pot combination. A head is pivotally attached to a hollow body and the hollow body is attached to a sleeve. When the sleeve is folded by upon the body and the head folded down, the combination appears to be a flower pot. Raising the head or pulling the sleeve down, or both, produces a doll.

Flower pot doll

A soft and lightweight play ball for use by pre-school and small children, the ball having the configuration and external appearance of a relatively hard and heavy conventional athletic ball of a given type, such as a football or baseball. The play ball is effectively 'dead' and almost free of bounce, hence it rebounds only slightly when striking a hard surface; and the ball is highly compressible, thereby making it possible for a small child to grasp, throw and catch the ball without difficulty. The play ball is constituted by a smooth, somewhat elastomeric casing including a polyvinyl plastic outer skin laminated to a stretchable inner reinforcing liner, whose shape and external appearance are similar to those of a conventional athletic ball, the squeezable casing enveloping a compressible core formed of shreds of soft, fibrous material material, whereby the fingers of the child grasping the ball press therein to provide a good grip despite the smoothness of the casing.

Soft play ball

Colored 3-D anaglyphs having approximately red or orange, and blue or green-blue element pairs in outline, at least some of the pairs being horizontally shifted relative to each other. The orange outline elements are colored to provide colored pictures that appear to the viewer in three dimensions when viewed through glasses having one lens approximately red in color and one lens approximately blue in color.

Multi-colored anaglyphs

A system of jewelry intended primarily though not exclusively for children incorporating an improved interconnectable bead. The improved interconnectable bead consists of a bead body having a male and a female connector and an opening through the bead body which is substantially perpendicular to an axis drawn through the male and female connectors. The bead body is strung on a string passed through the opening. The string ends are passed through a ring opening larger than the male connector and secured. The bead body may swivel freely until the male connector abuts the outer wall of the ring. If tension is applied to the string, the male connector will slip into the opening in the ring and thereby will be partially concealed. The improved bead may be used with hats and hair attachments and means for suspending it therefrom may be hook and loop fastening means.

Jewelry system

A rolling toy that comprises a spherical weight within a container. A representation of a face is on the container's surface. The container is contoured such that it can roll or tumble. The container is so proportioned to produce a variety of random rolling or tumbling modes that are psychologically unanticipated by the user.

Rolling toy

A doll comprising a crying sound generator within the doll body, first switch means for actuating the crying sound generator, at least two additional switch means, and automatic selection means for determining which of the additional switch means is connected to stop the crying. The additional switch means may be operated by manipulating the doll, e.g., by giving it a bottle, by changing its diaper, or by picking it up and patting its back. In a play sequence the child actuates the switch to produce crying sounds and then attempts to stop the crying by handling the doll in one of the ways stated. When the child hits upon the type of handling which operates the particular additional switch means selected by the random selector, the crying sounds stop. A short sequence of sighing or cooing sounds may be used at the end of the crying sounds.

Doll with sound generator and plural switch means

A game played by two persons, namely a player and an opponent player. Each player has an equal plurality of playing pieces, and each player has alternate turns at manipulating a plurality of discrete identification elements bearing symbols, e.g. a pair of dice, and continuing his turn as long as the symbols can be used, either separately or in combination, to move his or his opponent's playing pieces on a playing board in correspondence to the symbols on the identification elements. The object of the game is to get all the playing pieces of the player or opponent player into certain positions on the playing board, and the multiple choice strategy entails a player moving his own playing pieces either towards the preestablished finish position or positions, or moving his opponent player's pieces back from a final position or positions. The multiple choice strategy evolves from the novel method of steps and alternate choice involved in the game. Structure for the game as an article of manufacture is also disclosed. The present game is a synergistic combination of concepts which combine both the elements of chance and judgment, with the element of chance arising from the random orientation, after manipulation, of the discrete identification means to register identifying symbols, e.g. the tossing or rolling of a pair of dice.
