Preparation of sulfur-containing organosilicon compounds using a buffered phase transfer catalysis process

A method of preparing 3-&lsqb;N-(2-aminoethyl)&rsqb;aminoalkylalkoxysilanes in which ethylenediamine, ethylenediamine hydrochloride salt, and a suitable &ohgr;-chloroalkylalkoxysilane are fed to a reactor at a feed ratio of 3-40 moles total ethylenediamine per mole of chloroalkylalkoxysilane under reaction conditions to produce a such aminoalkylalkoxysilane. The proportions of ethylenediamine and ethylenediamine hydrochloride salt are controlled such that a phase containing the diamine salt is present in said reactor separate from a phase containing the aminoalkylalkoxysilane. Following said reaction, the salt phase is separated from the silane phase for recycle to the two phase reactor.

Process for the preparation of sulfur-containing organosilicon compounds

A hydrosilation process comprising contacting a silicon hydride with an unsaturated reactant in the presence of a platinum catalyst supported on porous aluminum oxide having an acidity of pH 2 to 7. The process is particularly useful for the hydrosilation of unsaturated reactants where the unsaturation is in the internal portion of the reactant's structure, for example, as in cyclopentene and cyclohexene.

A method of preparing an alkoxysilane having reduced halide content. The method comprises contacting a mixture comprising an alkoxysilane and residual halide with a mixture comprising about 1.5 to 15 moles of an alkyl alcohol per mole of residual halide, the alkyl alcohol comprising 1 to about 4 carbon atoms and about 0.1 to 5 moles of an orthoformate per mole of residual halide, to form a mixture comprising additional alkoxysilane and lower boiling species, and separating the lower boiling species and the alkoxysilane. Remaining residual halide may be contacted alkali metal to further reduce the halide content. Alkoxysilanes are useful as catalyst modifiers to manufacture polypropylene.

A hydrosilation process where a silicon hydride is reacted with an unsaturated reactant in the presence of a platinum catalyst and an accelerator selected from the group consisting of 1,7-octadiyne, 1,5-hexadiyne, cyclooctadiene, 5-vinyl-2-norbornene, 4-vinyl-1-cyclohexene, 2,5-bis(t-butylperoxy)-2,5-dimethylhexane, furan, 4H-Pyran-4-one, cis-4,7-dihydro-1,3-dioxepin, maleic anhydride, and dimethyldiallylmalonate. The accelerators are especially useful for facilitating the hydrosilation of unsaturated reactants where the unsaturation is in the internal portion of the reactant's structure, for example, as in cyclopentene and cyclohexene.

The method comprises contacting magnesium metal with a mixture comprising diethylene glycol dibutyl ether, allyl halide, and a halosilane at a temperature within a range of about 5.degree. C. to 20.degree. C. The method provides a high yield of allylsilane product that is easily recoverable and also provides for high ratios of allylsilane to hexadiene by-product.

The process comprises heating a mixture comprising an organodisilane and an organic halide at a temperature within a range of about 100.degree. C. to 350.degree. C. The process is especially useful for reacting alkenyl chlorides, such as allyl chloride, with organodisilanes to form organomonosilanes having alkenyl substitution. The process is also useful for converting a high-boiling organodisilane containing fraction from a direct process for forming organosilanes into more useful monosilanes.

The process comprises contacting magnesium metal with a mixture comprising diethylene glycol dibutyl ether, an organic halide, and a halodisilane at a temperature within a range of about 0.degree. C. to 250.degree. C. The process provides a high yield of organodisilane product that is easily recoverable. The present process is especially useful for converting halodisilanes in a high-boiling mixture resulting from the direct process for making organosilane monomers into hexaorganodisilanes.

Process for preparation of organodisilanes

A one-step process for preparation of organosilanes. The process comprises contacting magnesium metal with a mixture comprising an organic halide and a halosilane in a co-solvent comprising about one to 15 moles of a dialkyl ether comprising less than seven carbon atoms, per mole of the allyl chloride; and about 0.05 to less than two moles of a liquid aromatic hydrocarbon solvent per mole of the dialkyl ether; at a temperature within a range of about 5.degree. C. to 200.degree. C.

Process for preparation of organosilanes

A process for reacting organic halides with disilanes to form monosilanes. The process uses disubstituted palladium compounds as catalysts. The process is especially useful for reacting alkenyl chlorides, such as allyl chloride, with disilanes to form monosilanes having alkenyl substitution. The process is also useful for converting the high-boiling disilane containing fraction resulting from the direct process for forming organosilanes into more useful monosilanes.
