Examples herein relate to an apparatus. In some examples, an apparatus may include a circuit to direct a power signal to at least one electrical component. The circuit may include a protection device to regulate power to the electrical component, detection circuitry to detect when the protection device has failed, and an alert handling logic to receive a signal from the detection circuitry that the protection device has failed.

Circuits to identify protection device failures

Example implementations relate to a variable soft start device. For example, in an implementation, the variable soft start device may set the capacitance of a variable capacitance circuit connected to a soft start pin of the electronic fuse. The variable soft start device may read a power-good signal from the electronic fuse and determine the capacitance to set according to the power-good signal.

A controller, comprising: a processing resource; and a memory resource storing machine-readable instructions to cause the processing resource to: activate a detection signal to enable a transistor coupled to the controller; determine a voltage associated with a plurality of hot swap controllers; and determine, in view of the voltage, a quantity of hot swap controllers included in the plurality of hot swap controllers.

Examples disclosed herein relate to multi-node system fault management. In some of the examples disclosed herein, a fault detection circuit may distinguish between normal operating conditions of a multi-node system and faults that occur between the overcurrent protection of the system's power supplies and the hot plug protection of the system's nodes. The fault detection circuit may detect these faults by monitoring a voltage at the node's backplane connector prior to the input of the node's hot plug protection interface. If the magnitude of the monitored voltage drops below a threshold voltage at a rate that exceeds a threshold rate, the fault detection circuit may determine that a fault has occurred and may communicate the fault to the power supplies. The power supplies may receive the fault communication and shut off their power outputs to prevent the fault from causing damage to the components in the system.

Multi-node system fault management

A method for fabricating a point-of-load (POL) power supply system can include providing a circuit board. The circuit board can include a first set of connections configured for coupling a predetermined first portion of components of a voltage regulator down (VRD) system to the circuit board and a second set of connections configured for coupling a replacement module to the circuit board. Each of the first set of connections and the second set of connections is electrically coupled with a third set of connections that is configured for coupling a second portion of components of the VRD system to the circuit board. The second portion of components of the VRD system is connected to the circuit board. The replacement module is connected onto the circuit board via the second set of connections such that the replacement module and the second portion of components of the VRD system cooperate to provide at least a portion of the POL system.

A system comprises a load and a voltage regulator. The voltage regulator is configured to select a gate drive signal from among a plurality of input voltages. The voltage regulator is configured to use the selected gate drive signal to turn on a power transistor to produce a regulated voltage for the load.
