This disclosure relates to fugitive color systems and storage-stable fugitive colored liquid long-term fire retardant compositions comprising a fugitive color system. The fugitive color system comprises a fugitive color pigment. In particular, disclosed herein is the identification of fugitive color pigments exhibiting hydrophilic or diminished hydrophobic tendencies. And, in certain aspects, the fugitive color pigment is fluorescent.

Storage stable liquid fugitive colored fire-retardant concentrates

Disclosed are fire-retardant concentrates and solutions comprising mixtures of ammonium phosphates. In certain embodiments, less of the concentrate is needed to form an effective fire-retardant solution. In certain embodiments, the fire-retardant solutions exhibit decreased corrosion, especially with regard to magnesium. In certain embodiments, the fire-retardant solutions exhibit decreased aquatic toxicity.

Fire-retardant compositions and their uses

Certain aspects of the invention are drawn to formulations and methods of making a liquid gel concentrate composition. Such liquid gel concentrates are formed by admixing an alkali-swellable polymer with an alkaline swelling agent in an oil-based suspending agent. The invention also provides for gelled water fire suppressants produced by mixing a liquid gel concentrate composition with water and methods of using such fire suppressants for combating fires.

Liquid gel concentrate compositions and methods of use

Corrosion-inhibited fire retardant compositions and methods of making and using the same are provided. The corrosion-inhibited fire retardant compositions are comprised of at least one fire retardant component, at least one biopolymer having a particle size diameter of less than about 100 microns, and a corrosion inhibiting system. The corrosion inhibiting system is comprised of at least one corrosion inhibiting compound selected from a group of compounds including azoles, insoluble ferric pyrophosphate, soluble ferric pyrophosphate, ferrous oxalate, ferric citrate, ferrous sulfate, ferric ammonium citrate, soluble ferric orthophosphate, insoluble ferric orthophosphate, ferric ammonium oxalate, ferric ammonium sulfate, ferric bromide, ferric sodium oxalate, ferric stearate, ferric sulfate, ferrous acetate, ferrous ammonium sulfate, ferrous bromide, ferrous gluconate, ferrous iodide, ferric acetate, ferric fluoroborate, ferric hydroxide, ferric oleate, ferrous fumarate, ferrous oxide, ferric lactate, ferric resinate and any combination thereof. In a specific embodiment, the corrosion-inhibited fire retardant composition includes a xanthan biopolymer.

Fire retardant compositions with reduced aluminum corrosivity

Fire retardant compositions and methods of making and using the same are provided. The fire retardant compositions are comprised of at least one fire retardant component, including at least one ammonium polyphosphate and at least one biopolymer having a weight average particle diameter of less than about 100 microns. In a specific embodiment, the fire retardant composition is comprised of a xanthan biopolymer.

Methods for preparation of biopolymer thickened fire retardant compositions

A corrosion-inhibited fire retardant composition is provided that comprises at least one ammonium polyphosphate, at least one suspending agent, at least one phosphonate selected from a group consisting of aminotri(methylenephosphonic acid), 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid, hexamethylenediaminetetra(methylenephosphonic acid), diethylenetriaminepenta(methylenephosphonic acid), salts thereof, and mixtures thereof and a corrosion inhibiting system. The corrosion inhibiting system is comprised of at least one corrosion inhibiting compound selected from a group consisting of azoles, insoluble ferric pyrophosphate, soluble ferric pyrophosphate, ferrous oxalate, ferric citrate, ferrous sulfate, ferric ammonium citrate, insoluble ferric orthophosphate, soluble ferric orthophosphate, ferric ammonium oxalate, ferric ammonium sulfate, ferric bromide, ferric sodium oxalate, ferric stearate, ferric sulfate, ferrous acetate, ferrous ammonium sulfate, ferrous bromide, ferrous gluconate, ferrous iodide, ferric acetate, ferric fluoroborate, ferric hydroxide, ferric oleate, ferrous fumarate, ferrous oxalate, ferrous oxide, ferric lactate, ferric resinate, and any combination thereof. Methods of making and using the same are also described. In addition, agricultural plant nutrients comprising the same are provided.

The corrosion inhibiting system is comprised of at least one corrosion inhibiting compound selected from a group of compounds including azoles, insoluble ferric pyrophosphate, soluble ferric pyrophosphate, ferrous oxalate, ferric citrate, ferrous sulfate, ferric ammonium citrate, insoluble ferric orthophosphate, soluble ferric orthophosphate, ferric ammonium oxalate, ferric ammonium sulfate, ferric bromide, ferric sodium oxalate, ferric stearate, ferric sulfate, ferrous acetate, ferrous ammonium sulfate, ferrous bromide, ferrous gluconate, ferrous iodide, ferric acetate, ferric fluoroborate, ferric hydroxide, ferric oleate, ferrous fumarate, ferrous oxide, ferric lactate, ferric resinate and any combination thereof. The corrosion inhibiting system is typically present in the fire retardant composition of the invention in a minor amount effective to substantially reduce corrosiveness of the concentrated fire retardant composition and of its diluted solution. Methods of using the corrosion inhibiting system and corrosion-inhibited agricultural plant nutrients are also provided.

Biopolymer thickened fire retardant compositions

Colorized fire retardants, and methods of making and using the same, are provided that include an uncolored or minimally colored fire retardant composition and a colorant. The colorant is an aqueous dispersion, slurry, or suspension that includes an insoluble, non-fugitive pigment, e.g., red iron oxide or titanium dioxide. The aqueous dispersion pigment is added to the uncolored or minimally colored fire retardant composition at a time proximate to discharging the retardant onto the fuel. Accordingly, a user has control over the type and amount of colorant added to the fire retardant composition.

Colorant liquid, method of use, and wildland fire retardant liquids containing same

Fire retardant compositions comprise at least one ammonium polyphosphate, at least one suspending agent, and at least one metal ferrite. In specific embodiments, the compositions of the invention comprise zinc ferrite or magnesium ferrite.

Fire retardant concentrates and methods for preparation thereof and use

The present invention is directed to an aqueous concentrate adapted to be diluted with water and used in fire control. The concentrate exhibits a viscosity of less than about 2000 centipoise and containing between about 0.75% and about 6% by weight a thickening agent and at least about 24% by weight of certain fire retardants, particularly diammonium phosphate, diammonium sulfate, a blend of diammonium phosphate and diammonium sulfate, a blend of monoammonium phosphate and diammonium phosphate having a nitrogen to phosphorus ratio of at least about 1.25, and a blend of monoammonium phosphate, diammonium sulfate and diammonium phosphate having a nitrogen to phosphorus ratio of at least about 1.25. Processes for the preparation of such concentrates and for use thereof are also disclosed.
