A pressure-retaining disk receives a plurality of sensors, the disk of the pressure-retaining disk having a plurality of sensor-receiving bores for receiving the sensors. These bores are connected by a passage. The disk is part of an apparatus that sealingly closes an entry or opening to a pressure vessel. The apparatus or sensor assembly allows for passing a plurality of sensors at least partially into the vessel through the opening in the vessel. The apparatus includes means for mounting the disk to the vessel, such means can include a tubular body through which the sensors pass. The pressure-retaining disk is connected to one end of the mounting means such that pressure of the vessel is retained. The sensors pass through the bores in the pressure-retaining disk and the bores or opening in the mounting means.

Pressure-retaining disk

An assembly for permitting temperature measurements at a large number of locations within a vessel, which assembly has a spreader-reducer for compacting a significantly large number of thermocouple cables into a relatively small volume so as to permit passage through one or more vessel nozzles. The thermocouple cables each has a heat expansion portion as well as a seat, thereby permitting a series of horizontal arrays of thermocouple junctions positioned at different depths within the vessel.

In a temperature measuring system for determining the temperature at numerous levels within a reactor: A flexible thermocouple support is introduced into a well which is positioned inside the reactor; the measuring system includes a hollow flexible thermocouple support extending from outside the well through one well end to near the opposite well end, and the hollow support is adapted to receive a purging substance and to pass said purging substance into the well.

A heat detection system comprised of a length of thermocouple cable positioned proximate to the area to be controlled, said cable having the capacity to detect hot spots or areas, said cable being electrically connected to a plurality of transmitters for generating signals as a function of excessive temperature and/or line break, said transmitters, in turn, being electrically connected to one or more of a plurality of alarms adapted to indicate said excessive temperature and/or line break.
