A workflow program processes user input at one node in a workflow comprised of nodes and workflow paths connecting the nodes, wherein the user provides user input to traverse through at least one workflow path to reach the current node. The workflow program transmits information on a current node to an analyzer. The analyzer processes the information on the current node to determine whether there are modifications to at least one subsequent node following the current node over at least one workflow path from the current node. The analyzer transmits to the workflow program an update including modifications to the at least one subsequent node in response to determining the modifications.

A content object including information for a step represented by the node is associated with at least one node in the second level. Links are generated among the first level nodes and in each set of second level nodes indicating a logical ordering of the nodes and a direction of the flow of the tasks represented by the first level nodes and the flow of steps represented by the second level nodes. An end-user graphical user interface is generated from the generated nodes and links to direct an end user through the flow of tasks and steps represented by the nodes.

Remote installation of an application program is provided via a configuration of the application program corresponding to a particular user of the local application. The configuration is defined and stored on a remote server. In response to a user request, a determination is made that the stored configuration corresponds to the requesting user, the user is authenticated, and data is downloaded from the remote server according to the stored configuration. This stored configuration is also encrypted and stored in a manifest file which is also downloaded. Responsive to the user authentication, the manifest file is decrypted, and the application program is constructed pursuant to the configuration decrypted from the manifest file.

A collection artifact is generated containing an empty instantiation of the metamodel in which an instantiation of the metamodel may be stored, and the collection artifact is sent to a target platform. On the target platform, the collection artifact containing an instance of the selected artifact is instantiated, and each instantiation of the selected artifact instance contains attributes, characteristics, and a replica of the selected artifact's content. The instantiated collection artifact is transmitted back to the framework, and the selected artifact's attributes and characteristics contained in the instantiated collection artifact are analyzed to ascertain appropriate access and actions allowed on the selected artifact.

The IDE includes a Topological Multi-Tier Business Application Composer and associated Meta-model, wherein the Composer allows the developer to graphically design, develop, maintain, build, test, debug, and deploy the multi-tier business application and the graphical representation of the multi-tier business application is then persistently stored in the Meta-model The IDE also includes an Interactive Agent that monitors the Meta-model for an occurrence of a specific event and then triggers the display of a dialog box or other graphical element in the user interface of the IDE to interact with the developer by displaying context information comprising a list of suggested and recommended actions that advance the creation of the multi-tier business application.

The application program may be constructed pursuant to the configuration file or the decrypted configuration file.

If an item has been updated, then the updated item is retrieved, and the application program is built with the updated item. This stored configuration may also be encrypted and stored in a manifest file which may be decrypted to produce a decrypted configuration responsive to a user authentication. The decrypted configuration is checked to determine if any items described in the decrypted configuration have been updated. If an item has been updated, then the updated item is retrieved, and the application program is built with the updated item. Either or both of the manifest file and updated item may be stored on and downloaded from a remote data processing system.

Computer program code which is a candidate for Web enablement or stored procedures is identified. Source code corresponding to computer program code is scanned and parsed to determine static information concerning the computer program code. The static information is stored in a database. Dynamic information concerning the computer program code during an execution of the computer program code is also collected and stored in the database. Responsive to the static information and dynamic information stored in the database, relationships and dependencies are then developed and stored in the database. The database may then be queried to produce a set of potential candidates of computer program code meeting a constraint of the query. If insufficient candidates are returned by the query, then the query constraint may be relaxed, and the query repeated.

A method, apparatus, article of manufacture, and memory for programmatically switching arbitrary HTML pages is disclosed. The method includes the steps of receiving control information in an application server from a client computer, and executing a script in the application server to generate a map relating HTML files with commands to show pages related to the HTML files. When a control event is received from the client computer, the mapping provides a basis for commanding the client computer's browser to switch to a second HTML page. In one embodiment, the invention also includes a program storage device, tangibly embodying instructions for performing the above method steps. The invention also includes an apparatus for remotely scripting local objects. The apparatus includes an application server having device such as a computer for receiving control information from a client computer, and a device for executing a script using the control information to generate a map relating a second HTML file with a command to show the HTML file.
