A system and method is provided for metering vehicular traffic. Specifically, the system uses a computer to prevent delays as vehicles transition from a greater number of toll lanes to a lesser number of travel lanes. Toll collection devices are used to send a ready signal to a computer to indicate a vehicle is ready to leave a start point. The computer receives ready signals from the toll collection devices and uses a pre-programmed departure schedule to queue the vehicles. After the vehicles are queued, the computer uses time delay variables to ensure efficient traffic flow between the toll lanes of the plaza and the travel lanes of the bridge or tunnel. An indicator signal responsive to a departure signal sent by the computer is employed to direct vehicles from a start point towards a travel lane.

A system and method for moving vehicular traffic in a single lane through a control zone requires creation of a control protocol. The protocol establishes a spacing distance 's' and a speed 'v' for each vehicle in the control zone. A computer then controls movement of a visible signal through the control zone in accordance with the established protocol. Electronic regulators monitor the distance &#x201c;s&#x201d; between the signal and the vehicle, and the system alarms when &#x201c;s&#x201d; becomes greater than a predetermined distance &#x201c;d&#x201d;.

Traffic control system

A luggage device includes: (a) a main housing, the main housing having a top, a bottom, and walls, and having an opening area for insertion of one or more items into the main housing, with closure means; (b) load determination component connected to the main housing at the bottom, having at least one base member with a first position where it is not in contact with and resting on a separate surface under weight of the luggage device, and having a second position where it is in contact with and resting on a separate surface under weight of the luggage device, and is capable of weight determination; (c) load determination display mechanism connected to the load determination component for display of weight determined. In yet other embodiments, the present invention luggage device is arranged so that the handle rather than the bottom is utilized to function as part of the weighing capability.
