A printing device for printing text, indicia, and images on a medium includes a housing that abuts a surface of the medium during a printing sequence and includes a print head which is moved from a starting position to an ending position during a printing sequence by a bidirectional first movement drive in cooperation with a second bidirectional movement drive. Control means disposed in the housing include motion control means for controlling said movement drives and reset means to prepare the printer for a subsequent print sequence.

A Stirling cycle machine control system includes an energy converter having a moving member. A detector is operatively associated with the moving member. The detector is configured to detect stroke of the moving member. A converter circuit is coupled with an output of the energy converter and is operative to convert output from AC to DC. A regulator is coupled with the converter circuit and a useful load, and is operative to regulate DC voltage. A controllably variable load member is coupled to the converter circuit and is operative to adjust load to the energy converter. Adjustment of the load to the energy converter regulates power output of the energy converter which in turn controls movement of the moving member. Control circuitry is signal coupled with the detector and the load member. The control circuitry is configured to receive a feedback signal correlated with the detected stroke of the moving member. The control circuitry is operative to dynamically adjust load on the energy converter to limit stroke of the moving member below a threshold level. A method is also provided.

A hand-held and self contained electronic printing device for printing indicia on a medium includes a housing that can be manually positioned adjacent a surface of the medium and remain stationary against the medium during a printing sequence; the housing having an aperture that generally defines a printing area on the medium when the housing is in position for printing; a printer disposed in the housing for printing indicia in a selectable pattern of dots on the medium within the printing area; an actuator for initiating a printing sequence; and electronic control means disposed in the housing for controlling the printer to print indicia on the medium during a printing sequence. In one embodiment, the print head can be moved to sweep across a printing area by a manual force applied to an actuator.

A hand-held and self contained electronic printing apparatus for printing indicia on a medium disposed outside the apparatus includes a housing that can be manually positioned adjacent a surface of the medium and manually swept across a printing area on the medium during a printing sequence; a printer disposed in the housing and having a print head with a plurality of print elements such as ink jet nozzles for printing indicia in a selectable pattern of dots on the medium within the printing area; and an electronic control circuit disposed in the housing for controlling the printer to print indicia on the medium during a printing sequence, the control circuit comprising compensation for reducing image distortion based on detecting position of the nozzles during a printing sequence.

A secondary power system eliminates the need for an automatic transfer switch and permits simultaneous supply from different sources. Primary power is rectified and connected to a DC bus, an AC generator has its output rectified and connected to the DC bus, and a storage battery is also connected to the DC bus. Current on the DC bus is inverted to AC to provide an uninterrupted power supply. The system is connected to a household electrical system by a power distribution panel which can be installed in a home prior to the secondary power system and can facilitate installation of the secondary system. The distribution panel can selectively bypass the secondary system and can disconnect non-vital loads when primary power is not available. The generator is powered by an engine using gasoline, natural gas or water, which can also power other systems, such as air conditioning, with exhaust heat or rotary motion.

Congeneration power system

A transformer or inductor is made by wrapping a magnetic core material about a toroid-like structure made up of one or more electrical windings. A ferroresonant transformer may be constructed by including a slotted washer between primary and secondary windings. By shorting one of the windings, the ferroresonant transformer can be made into a gapped inductor with the gap totally enclosed within the core.

An alternating current conditioner is provided with a magnetic structure that provides smoothing, transient suppression, ride through and power factor correction. The structure has a gapped magnetic core and primary and secondary windings. A shunt is provided between the primary and secondary, with the gap being on the primary side. A capacitor is in series with the secondary winding. The capacitor and the shunt inductance provide an LC low pass filter. The inductance caused by the gap cancels the capacitive effect of the LC filter.

Alternating current conditioner

An uninterruptible power supply is disclosed having an inverter that operates on either high voltage d.c. supplied by a line-powered power supply or on low voltage d.c. batteries. With line power, the inverter operates as an H-bridge inverter. With battery power, the battery voltage is applied to a smaller portion of the inverter's transformer primary. The changeover from line to battery power is determined by when an intermediate voltage tapped from the transformer drops below the battery voltage.

A method and apparatus for detecting the loss of regulation in ferroresonant transformer is disclosed. The flux in the magnetic shunts is sensed by a winding. The resulting signal is differentiated. If the differentiated signal contains pulses, regulation is present, if no pulses are found the transformer is not in regulation.
