This development proposed adding a catalyst to an oxygen stripper. The oxygen stripper would be run at a temperature just below or at coking temp. The oxygen stripper includes a catalyst containing Group VI or VII metals to remove free radicals. Most preferably, the catalyst is a nickel-molybdenum catalyst.

Catalytic stripping process

In a hydrocracking process, the hydrocarbon feed is processed by a guard reactor operating at maximum severity temperatures. The processing in the guard reactor maximizes the removal of metals and performs hydrodenitrogenation steps and hydrodesulfurization steps. The demetallized and partially desulfurized and denitrogenized hydrocarbon feed is then sent to a treating reactor for further hydrodenitrogenation and hydrodesulfurization before being sent further downstream for further hydrocracking processing.

Hydrocracker activity management

The present invention relates to quenching, during hydroprocessing of a hydrocarbon feed stream. More particularly, the present invention provides for quenching in hydroprocessing of a hydrocarbon feed stream through a hydroprocessing vessel. Liquid quenches (from high pressure hot separator) were installed to assist in cooling the reactor inter-bed, and to maintain good liquid irrigation of the catalyst. The soluble hydrogen in the stream, kinetically active and available for immediate reaction, is the final piece of the puzzle for why this unit runs so well.

Hydroprocessing

This unique process is a feed forward control of hydroprocessing by on-line sulfur speciation. An on-line gas analyzer such as (GC) with a sulfur specific detector (AED) would be installed to analyze the feed to a hydrotreating unit. The analyzer would be calibrated to quantify the individual sulfur compounds or classes of sulfur compounds present in the feed. The output from the analyzer would be linked to the unit's distributed control system to automatically change temperatures and feed rates to change hydrotreating severity. This invention could bring economical benefits by increasing the life of the hydrotreating catalyst, reducing operating cost, and decreasing the potential amount of offspec product. In one embodiment, the hydrotreating is a hydrodesulphurization process.

Method and apparatus for controlling hydroprocessing on-line

The present invention provides a way to process heavier hydrocarbons in a relatively low cost and low pressure process using a combination of superheated steam and at least one reaction gas to i) promote oxidation and thermal reaction of heavier hydrocarbons, while simultaneously ii) removing volatile components with a steam stripping process.

Continuous oxidation and distillation process of heavier hydrocarbon materials

The present invention provides a way to increase the softening point of heavier hydrocarbons in a relatively low cost and low pressure process using superheated steam to i) increase the carbon yield of the heavier hydrocarbons, while simultaneously ii) removing volatile components with a steam stripping process.

Method of producing high softening point pitch

A continuous, hot vapor injection process and apparatus is provided for recovering lube oil base stocks from used lubricating oil containing distillable liquid hydrocarbons and water. Also disclosed is an asphalt blend composition containing an asphalt component and the bottoms from the above process.

The present invention is a structure for holding and forming an optical mirror disc. A puller plate is attached to an elastic layer to the back surface of the mirror. A tensioner applies axial tension to the puller plate. A perimeter support engages the perimeter of the disc and reacts the axial tension into an axial compression force acting on the perimeter of the disc, flexing the disc into a desired shape.

Optical mirror flexing structure and assembly

A process for the direct contact heating and vaporization of UMO is disclosed. A superheated, but condensable, vapor heats and vaporizes distillable liquid hydrocarbons from a waste motor oil stream, producing an overhead vapor fraction of injected superheated vapor and vaporized boiling range components. This material is cooled and partially condensed to produce lube boiling range liquid hydrocarbons and a vapor phase, which is condensed to produce a recycle liquid phase. Recycle liquid is pumped and then heated to produce superheated vapor for recycle to contact the UMO.

&ldquo;Pumped&rdquo; recycle vapor

Used Motor Oil is re-refined by direct injection of a superheated, non-hydrogenating recycle vapor. The process operates at low pressures, preferably from atmospheric&mdash;10 atmospheres absolute. Preferably a significant amount of the energy required to vapor used motor oil is supplied in the form of increased sensible heat of a recycle vapor stream. Direct injection of superheated vapor reduces or eliminates fouling which can occur when indirect heat exchange is used to supply the heat needed to vaporize used motor oil.

Vaporization of used motor oil with non-hydrogenating recycle vapor

An asphalt blend composition containing an asphalt component and a bottoms fraction from a used motor vaporization process of the above process, and a pavement composition comprising aggregate and the asphalt blend composition. The process comprises directly contacting used lubricating oil with a heated vapor, e.g., steam, under conditions which at least partially decompose the organo-metallic component and provide a desired volume of pumpable bottoms containing organo-metallic compound decomposition products and an overhead comprising gases and distillatable hydrocarbons, with no substantial carryover of metals into the overhead. The process may be carried out under conditions which minimize decomposition of high molecular weight additives such as VI improvers.

Asphalt blend compositions containing used motor oil and asphalt pavement compositions containing said asphalt blend compositions

A process for use of magnetic separation to remove non-magnetic particles from FCC catalyst is disclosed. A stream of circulating catalyst from a fluidized catalytic cracking (FCC) unit is charged to a magnetic separator. The catalyst is magnetically fractionated into at least three fractions, a high-metals fraction which is discarded, an intermediate-metals content fraction which is directly recycled to the FCC unit, and an inert, relatively magnetic metals-free fraction which is also discarded. Preferably, the high-metals fraction is immediately mixed with the inert, low-metals fraction, and the combined high-metals/inert fraction is pneumatically transmitted together to a spent catalyst storage facility for disposal.

Use of magnetic separation to remove non-magnetic, particles from FCC

A process is provided for recovering lube oil base stocks from used lubricating oil formulations containing base oil stock and organo-metallic component which obviates preseparation of water and light hydrocarbons contaminants. The process comprises directly contacting used lubricating oil with a heated vapor, e.g., steam, under conditions which at least partially decompose the organo-metallic component and provide a desired volume of pumpable bottoms containing organo-metallic compound decomposition products and an overhead comprising gases and distillatable hydrocarbons, with no substantial carryover of metals into the overhead. The process may be carried out under conditions which minimize decomposition of high molecular weight additives such as VI improvers, to provide a bottoms fraction which may be added to asphalt or fuel oil. Also disclosed are an asphalt blend composition containing an asphalt component and the bottoms of the above process, and a pavement composition comprising aggregate and the asphalt blend composition.
