A thread management circuit of a processing system stores a thread identifier table and a thread completion table. The thread management circuit receives, from a processor core, a request for execution of a portion of an application by an accelerator circuit. The thread management circuit allocates a thread identifier available in the thread identifier table to the processor core for the execution of the portion by the accelerator circuit. The thread management circuit communicates a response and an acceleration request, both including the allocated thread identifier, to the processor core and the accelerator circuit, respectively. The thread management circuit communicates a thread joining response to the processor core based on a received thread joining request and an indication by the thread completion table that the execution of the portion by the accelerator circuit is complete. The executed portion is integrated with the application based on the thread joining response.

Method and system for accelerator thread management

Methods and systems are provided for managing electrical power consumption in a mobile phone or other portable communications device having a battery and a display. A series of views forming a flow are retrieved from a memory or other digital storage device for presentation on the display. For each of the views in the flow, performance information relating to the portable communications device is determined while the view is displayed, and this information is stored in the digital storage medium. Upon subsequent retrieval of each view from the digital storage medium, configuring the operation of the portable communications device in response to the stored performance information to thereby manage the electrical power consumption of the portable communications device.

Systems and methods for managing power consumption in a flow-based user experience

Embodiments of the systems and methods utilize application contexts for extending virtual machines in a resource-constrained device to allow virtual machines to at least exercise scheduling control over platform independent applications and platform dependent native applications. Application contexts can be assigned to each application in the system. An application is represented by one or more data structures and functions. In one embodiment, an 'application context' includes an interface to a virtual machine and a container for an execution environment of the application. The interface represents a mapping of services to an execution environment. The application context can isolate control over the execution of the application from the execution environment, thus, allowing the virtual machine to control execution of the application and allowing the application to be executed in a native environment, a virtual machine environment, or any other execution environment.

Virtual machine extended capabilities using application contexts in a resource-constrained device

In one embodiment of the present invention an interpreted language, such as, for example, Java, is selectively optimized by partitioning the interpreted language code () into a plurality of blocks (-) based on the complexity of each of the interpreted language instructions. In one embodiment of the present invention, each of the plurality of blocks is identified as either a block to be compiled into native code (-) if the block is simple, or a block to be interpreted () if the block is complex. The compiled and interpreted blocks are appended to form in-line mixed code () that contains both native code (-) and interpreted language code (). This mixed code is formed before run-time, so that no further compilation is required at run-time. A processing unit () may be used to execute the native code directly without the use of a Java VM (), while also executing, in-line, the interpreted language code () which requires use of the Java VM () to interpret the Java bytecodes.
