A hydroprocess catalyzed by a catalyst composition comprising a porous refractory oxide, a molybdenum component, a phosphorus component and an underbedded nickel component, the composition characterized by a Raman spectrum comprising at least one Raman band in each of the regions of (1) about 240 cm.sup.-1 to about 250 cm.sup.-1, and (2) about 595 cm.sup.-1 to about 605 cm.sup.-1. The catalyst is prepared by sequential incorporation of the nickel metal followed by the additional catalytic promoters including a molybdenum component and a phosphorus component.

Process for hydroprocessing hydrocarbons

A catalyst containing an overlayer of a catalytic promoter on a porous refractory support containing an underbedded Group VIII metal-containing component. The catalyst is prepared by sequential incorporation of the Group VIII metal followed by the additional catalytic promoter component, usually a Group VIB metal, with the porous refractory oxide support. Underbedded nickel components on the catalyst are characterized by a unique Raman spectrum exhibiting Raman bands in the region of about 240 cm.sup.-1 to about 250 cm.sup.-1 and in the region of about 595 cm.sup.-1 to about 605 cm.sup.-1. The catalyst has a MoO.sub.3 /NiO weight ratio less than 6 to 1 and more than 4 weight percent of NiO. The catalyst is especially useful for simultaneous hydrodenitrogenation and hydrodesulfurization of a gas oil, particularly when the refractory oxide support has a narrow pore size distribution.

Hydroprocessing catalyst and its use

A process for the simultaneous hydrodenitrogenation and hydrodesulfurization of a gas oil utilizing a novel catalyst. The novel hydroprocessing catalyst comprises an overlayer of at least one Group VIB metal component, at least one Group VIII metal component and at least one phosphorous component on a support comprising at least one underbedded phosphorus component combined with a porous refractory oxide, said catalyst having a median pore diameter from about 60 to about 120 .ANG..

Process for the use of a phosphorus-containing hydroprocessing catalyst

A catalyst containing an overlayer of a catalytic promoter on a porous refractory support containing an underbedded Group VIII metal-containing component. The catalyst is prepared by sequential incorporation of the Group VIII metal followed by the additional catalytic promoter component, usually a Group VIB metal, with the porous refractory oxide support. The catalyst has a MoO.sub.3 /NiO weight ratio less than 6 to 1 and more than 4 weight percent of NiO. The catalyst is especially useful for simultaneous hydrodenitrogenation and hydrodesulfurization of a gas oil, particularly when the refractory oxide support has a narrow pore size distribution.

Hydrocarbon conversion process

A catalyst containing an overlayer of a catalytic promoter on a porous refractory support containing an underbedded phosphorus-containing component. The catalyst is prepared by incorporation and calcination of phosphorus with the porous refractory oxide support followed by further incorporation of the overlayer of catalytic promoter components, such as Group VIB and Group VIII metals. The catalyst is especially active when underbedded phosphorus components are incorporated into the support at calcination temperatures less than 900.degree. F. The catalyst is useful for simultaneous hydrodenitrogenation and hydrodesulfurization of a gas oil, particularly when the refractory oxide support has a narrow pore size distribution.

A catalyst useful for hydroprocessing a hydrocarbon-containing oil contains at least one hydrogenation component on an amorphous, porous refractory oxide support containing between 2 and 8 weight percent of silica. The catalyst is prepared by impregnating support particles having a narrow pore size distribution and a median pore diameter greater than about 120 angstroms with a solution containing precursors of the hydrogenation components, followed by drying and calcining. The catalyst is useful for promoting a number of hydrocarbon hydroprocessing reactions, particularly simultaneous hydrogenative desulfurization, demetallization and denitrogenation of residuum-containing oils.

Resid hydroprocessing catalyst

A catalyst useful for hydroprocessing a hydrocarbon-containing oil contains at least one hydrogenation component on an amorphous, porous refractory oxide containing delta alumina. The catalyst is prepared by impregnating support particles having a narrow pore size distribution and a median pore diameter greater than about 185 angstroms with a solution containing a precursor of the hydrogenation components, followed by drying and calcining. The catalyst is useful for promoting a number of hydrocarbon hydroprocessing reactions, particularly hydrogenative desulfurization, demetallation and denitrogenation, and most particularly, hydrodemetallation of residuum-containing oils.

Demetallation catalyst

A catalytic hydrotreating process wherein silicon-containing contaminants contained in a hydrocarbon feedstream are deposited onto a hydrotreating catalyst bed during hydrotreating in a manner providing improved catalyst stability. Hydrotreating catalysts having relatively high activities and low surface areas are located downstream of upstream hydrotreating catalysts having relatively low activities and high surface areas.

Catalytic materials are modified by adding one or more electropositive and/or electronegative elements thereto in amounts sufficient to adjust the resultant geometric mean electronegativity to a value within a desired or predetermined range. The invention is particularly suited to the preparation of hydrocarbon hydroprocessing catalysts, particularly with respect to hydrodesulfurization catalysts comprising a support material containing a porous refractory oxide. With such catalysts, not only is the geometric mean electronegativity adjusted to a desired value, but if the electropositive or electronegative element added to the catalyst has pore growth promotion properties, the average pore size of the resultant catalyst is increased while its surface area, and usually also its total pore volume, is decreased.

Hydroprocessing with a catalyst having a narrow pore size distribution

Hydrocarbon hydroprocessing using catalysts containing a Group VIB metal and a phosphorus component on a porous refractory oxide is prepared by impregnating support particles with a solution containing (1) phosphorus, and (2) citric acid in a mole ratio to Group VIB metal components of less than 1 to 1, followed by drying and calcining. The catalysts are useful for promoting a number of hydrocarbon hydroprocessing reactions, particularly those involving hydrogenative desulfurization, demetallization and most particularly, denitrogenation.
