The disclosed embodiments provide a system that performs document scanning. The system includes a scanner and a computing device. To enable detection of the computing device in proximity to the scanner, the computing device may be configured to advertise a scan-receiving capability using a discovery protocol. Next, the scanner may use the discovery protocol to identify a set of computing devices in proximity to the scanner, including the computing device. The scanner may then provide the set of computing devices to a user of the scanner and obtain, from the user of the scanner, a selection of the computing device as a recipient of the scanned document. Finally, the scanner may send the scanned document to the computing device over a network connection with the computing device.

Ad hoc transmission of scanned documents to computing devices

Systems, computer readable media, and methods for printing of 3D objects in color are disclosed. In general, a 3D object may be produced and colored by a 3D printer using the same digital 3D model. The digital model for a desired 3D object may be revised to include a process for coloring the object by the 3D printer. In one embodiment, this may involve coloring to the object after it has been made. In an alternative embodiment, color may be added as the object is being made. Because the 3D model provides knowledge of the surface, contours and all the coordinates of the 3D object being printed, the object can be colored using the same digital model.

Method and apparatus for three dimensional printing of colored objects

Exemplary embodiments of methods and apparatuses to dynamically redistribute computational processes in a system that includes a plurality of processing units are described. The power consumption, the performance, and the power/performance value are determined for various computational processes between a plurality of subsystems where each of the subsystems is capable of performing the computational processes. The computational processes are exemplarily graphics rendering process, image processing process, signal processing process, Bayer decoding process, or video decoding process, which can be performed by a central processing unit, a graphics processing units or a digital signal processing unit. In one embodiment, the distribution of computational processes between capable subsystems is based on a power setting, a performance setting, a dynamic setting or a value setting.

Methods and apparatuses for load balancing between multiple processing units

The disclosed embodiments provide a system that facilitates the execution of a print job. During operation, the system obtains print data and a set of job options for the print job, wherein the print data is associated with a document format that is not supported by a printing protocol used to perform the print job. Next, the system obtains a set of document-processing capabilities associated with the document format from a printer associated with the print job. Finally, the system configures the print job based on the job options and the document-processing capabilities without converting the print data into a different document format that is supported by the printing protocol.

The disclosed embodiments provide a system that performs a print job. During operation, the system obtains one or more available media attributes, including a media size, a border size, and/or a media type, from a printer associated with the print job. Next, the system provides the available media attributes to an application and uses the application to automatically generate and format print data for the print job based on the available media attributes. Finally, the system sends the print job to the printer, where the print job is executed using the printer.

Each destination has an associated confidence rating and confidence ratings are based on a match between the current time and time data for each destination. The disclosed embodiments provide a system that facilitates the execution of a print job. During operation, the system receives, at a printer, a signal from a portable electronic device indicating the printer has been selected for the print job. The system also provides a mechanism for confirming physical access to the printer by the user. In a print settings mode, when the electronic device detects a motion of the device, the device can identify a print setting associated with the detected motion. In some cases, a print setting can instead or in addition be defined in response to receiving an input from an input interface, wherein the input is independent from a displayed option. To print the content, the content and the defined print settings can be provided to a printer system.

During operation, the system obtains one or more regions of interest associated with print data for the print job, wherein the print data is not formatted for a media size for the print job. Next, the system scales the print data based on a region of interest from the one or more regions of interest and the media size. The disclosed embodiments provide a system that facilitates driverless printing. This system includes a discovery component configured to identify accessible printers and to facilitate selection of an accessible printer, wherein the discovery component is also configured to obtain capability information from accessible printers.
