Polarization current antennas comprise a dielectric radiator that extends along a z-axis, polarization devices that are positioned adjacent the dielectric radiator along the z-axis that are configured to polarize respective portions of the dielectric radiator and a feed network that is configured to excite the polarization devices with an RF signal to generate a polarization current wave that propagates in the z-axis direction through the dielectric radiator, with acceleration, at (1) a first variable speed that does not decrease as the wave moves along a first portion of the dielectric radiator and that does not increase as the wave moves along the remainder of the dielectric radiator, (2) a second variable speed that does not decrease as the wave moves along the entirety of the dielectric radiator or (3) a third variable speed that does not increase as the wave moves along the entirety of the dielectric radiator.

Polarization current antennas that generate superluminal polarization current waves having acceleration and related methods of exciting such antennas

An apparatus for generating electromagnetic radiation comprises a polarizable or magnetizable medium. A polarization or magnetisation current can be generated, in a controlled manner, whose distribution pattern has an accelerated motion, so that non-spherically decaying and intense spherically decaying components of electromagnetic radiation can be generated. The coordinated motion of aggregates of charged particles can give rise to extended electric charges and currents. The charged distribution patterns can propagate with a phase speed exceeding the speed of light in vacuo and that, once created, such propagating charged patterns act as sources of electromagnetic fields in precisely the same way as any other moving sources of these fields. That the distribution patterns of these sources travel faster than light is not, of course, in any way incompatible with the requirements of special relativity. The superluminally moving charged pattern is created by the coordinated motion of aggregates of subluminally moving particles.

Apparatus for generating focused electromagnetic radiation

A method for generating electromagnetic radiation, including the steps of: providing a series of adjacent electrode pairs arranged on a common dielectric substrate, the electrodes of each electrode pair substantially aligned on opposite sides of the common dielectric substrate; energizing a first electrode pair in the series of electrode pairs at an energizing time to produce a volume polarization distribution pattern within the common dielectric substrate; energizing a next adjacent electrode pair in the series of adjacent electrode pairs at a next energizing time to produce a variation of the volume polarization distribution pattern within the common dielectric substrate, the center of the next adjacent electrode pair located a distance from the center of the previous adjacent electrode pair, wherein the next energizing time is a time interval after the previous energizing time, the time interval less than the time for light to travel the distance between the centers of the previous and the next adjacent electrode pairs; and repeating the step of energizing the next adjacent electrode pair for subsequent electrode pairs in the series of adjacent electrode pairs to produce a continuous time-varying volume polarization distribution pattern within the common dielectric substrate.

An antenna may include a volume polarization current radiator and a feed network. The volume polarization current radiator, includes a dielectric solid (such as a dielectric strip), and a plurality of closely-spaced excitation elements (), each excitation element () being configured to induce a volume polarization current distribution in the dielectric solid proximate to the excitation element when a voltage is applied to the excitation element. The feed network is coupled to the volume polarization current radiator. The feed network also includes a plurality of passive power divider elements () and a plurality of passive delay elements (d-d) coupling the first port () and the plurality of second ports (), the plurality of power divider elements () and the plurality of phase delay elements (d-d) being configured such that a radio-frequency signal that is applied to the first port () experiences a progressive change of phase as it is coupled to the plurality of second ports () so as to cause the volume polarization current distribution to propagate along the dielectric solid.

Feed network and electromagnetic radiation source

An apparatus and method for a radiation source involving phase fronts emanating from an accelerated, oscillating polarization current whose distribution pattern moves superluminally (that is, faster than light in vacuo). Theoretical predictions and experimental measurements using an existing prototype superluminal source show that the phase fronts from such a source can be made to be very complex. Consequently, it will be very difficult for an aircraft imaged by such a radiation to detect where this radiation has come from. Moreover, the complexity of the phase fronts makes it almost impossible for electronics on an aircraft to synthesize a rogue reflection. A simple directional antenna and timing system should, on the other hand, be sufficient for the radar operators to locate the aircraft, given knowledge of their own source's speed and modulation pattern.
