A process for producing a flexible vulcanized joint between two electric power cables includes the steps of: producing an exposed conductor joint between each end of the two cable ends to be joined; producing an inner semi-conducting layer thereby radially surrounding and covering the exposed conductor joint; winding an insulation tape including an organic peroxide around the inner semi-conducting layer thereby radially surrounding and covering the inner semi-conducting layer; curing the insulation tape to produce an insulation layer; and producing an outer semi-conducting layer thereby radially surrounding and covering the insulation layer. The step of winding the insulation tape around the inner semi-conductor layer is performed under an oxygen-free atmosphere. The present invention also provides a flexible vulcanized joint produced by this process, and an electric power cable including such a joint.

Flexible vulcanized joint between two electric power cables and process for producing said joint

An electric power cable and a process for the production of the cable including a metal conductor and an electric insulation system surrounding the conductor coaxially and radially outwards of the conductor having improved electric properties. The insulation system includes an inner semi-conducting layer surrounded radially outwards by an insulation layer and wherein the insulation layer is surrounded radially outwards by an outer semi-conducting layer. The electric power cable further includes an inner water blocking material arranged in the conductor and/or to surround the conductor radially outwards and an outer water blocking material arranged radially outwards from the insulation system. An inner barrier layer is arranged as a diffusion hindering layer between the inner water blocking material and the insulation system and an outer barrier layer is arranged as a diffusion hindering layer between the insulation system and the outer water blocking material.

The insulation sample is prepared from cable sample by cutting a circular layer having a set thickness at desired radius from the central axis of the cable.
