Systems and methods include one or more processing devices configured to implement a Network Operating System (NOS) that is configured to switch frames, wherein the one or more processing devices are connected to a plurality of Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) configured to operate in a chain having a service flow, and wherein the NOS is configured to implement frame classification for the frames in order to distribute the frames to the plurality of VNFs, such that some of the plurality of VNFs process a subset of the frames.

Systems and methods for sideline processing in a virtual network function

Systems and methods for enabling Media Access Control Security (MACsec) at a MAC layer, according to IEEE 802.1AE, and extending MACsec are provided. An edge device, according to one implementation, includes one or more User-to-Network Interface (UNI) ports and a plurality of Network-to-Network Interface (NNI) ports. The edge device also includes a processing device and a memory device configured to store a computer program having instructions. The instructions, when executed, allow the processing device to provide network security on a Media Access Control (MAC) layer, the network security defined by the MAC Security (MACsec) protocol. The instructions also allow the processing device to provide network path protection by enabling packet routing over multiple paths via the plurality of NNI ports on a network layer.

Extending Media Access Control Security (MACsec) to Network-to-Network Interfaces (NNIs)

Systems and methods of automatically creating and operating a Maintenance End Point (MEP) include, at a slave/reactive network device, receiving an Operations, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) Protocol Data Unit (PDU) with a destination Media Access Control (MAC) address equal to an interface address of the slave/reactive network device; automatically creating the MEP based on the received OAM PDU and attributes contained in a header of the OAM PDU, wherein the MEP is with a master/active network device; and operating an OAM session with the master/active network device including exchanging Continuity Check Messages (CCMs) with an interval learned from received CCMs from the master/active network device. The systems and methods can further include automatically deleting the MEP responsive to failing to receive any OAM PDUs from the master/active network device during the operating for a predetermined time.

Systems and methods for automated maintenance end point creation

A Virtual Network Function (VNF) executed on a processing device includes one or more first Terminal Access Point (TAP) interfaces which are virtual network kernel interfaces and which are each mapped to an associated second TAP interface associated with a Network Operating System (NOS), wherein the associated second TAP interface is mapped to an associated physical port; and a processor configured to receive, transmit, and process select frames via the one or more first TAP interfaces, wherein the VNF is in a sideline configuration of a service flow, only receiving and transmitting the select frames of the service flow.

Systems and methods utilize an all-or-none switchover to prevent split-brain problems in a Multi-Chassis Link Aggregation Group (MC-LAG) network. A standby node in the MC-LAG network can perform the steps of remaining in a standby state responsive to a loss of adjacency with an active node, wherein, in the standby state, all standby links between the standby node and a common endpoint are non-distributing; monitoring frames transmitted by the common endpoint to the standby node over the standby links; and determining based on the monitoring frames whether all active links between the active node and the common endpoint have failed and entering an active state with all the standby links distributing based thereon.
