The present invention relates to a chemically sensitive sensor for detecting volatile organic compounds, the sensor comprising a substrate, an electrode array, a micro-barrier, and a sensing layer comprising a multiplicity of core-shell particles in close-packed orientation, the particles comprising a metal nanoparticle (MNP) core and an organic ligand shell, wherein the MNP core has a mean particle size below about 15 nm. The invention further provides a method for fabrication of the chemically sensitive sensor.

Chemically sensitive sensor comprising micro-barrier and method of fabrication thereof

Methods of diagnosing and/or monitoring tuberculosis (TB) in a subject by analyzing a test sample comprising at least one volatile organic compound (VOC) or semi-volatile organic compound (SVOC) emitted or excreted from the skin of the subject. The test sample can be analyzed by a sensing unit comprising nanomaterials- and/or polymer-based sensors. Further provided is a skin-mountable device comprising a fixing unit and said sensing unit. Also discloses a method of diagnosing and/or monitoring tuberculosis, comprising analyzing specific skin-emitted VOCs or SVOCs, which are indicative of tuberculosis in a subject.

Device and methods for detection and monitoring of tuberculosis

The present invention provides a vapor-permeable flexible sensing platform unit comprising: a first porous membrane, wherein said membrane is substantially flexible and hydrophobic; and a volatile organic compounds (VOCs) sensor disposed on said membrane, the VOCs sensor comprising an electrode array and a conducting polymer porous film being in electric contact with said electrode array, wherein the VOCs sensor is insensitive to lateral strain. Further provided are a method of preparation of said platform unit and a lift-off, float-on (LOFO) method for the preparation of protonically doped polyaniline (PANI) thin films.

Biomimetic sensing platform unit

A self-healing field-effect transistor (FET) device is disclosed in this application, the self-healing FET has a self-healing substrate, a self-healing dielectric layer, a gate electrode, at least one source electrode, at least one drain electrode, and at least one channel. The self-healing substrate and the self-healing dielectric layer have a disulfide-containing poly(urea-urethane) (PUU) polymer. The self-healing dielectric layer has a thickness of less than about 10 μm. The electrodes have electrically conductive elongated nanostructures. The at least one channel has semi-conducting elongated nanostructures.

Multi-functional field effect transistor with intrinsic self-healing properties

The present invention provides a self-healing field-effect transistor (FET) device comprising a self-healing substrate and a self-healing dielectric layer, said substrate and said layer comprising a disulfide-containing poly(urea-urethane) (PUU) polymer, wherein the dielectric layer has a thickness of less than about 10 &#x3bc;m, a gate electrode, at least one source electrode, and at least one drain electrode, said electrodes comprising electrically conductive elongated nanostructures; and at least one channel comprising semi-conducting elongated nanostructures. Further provided is a method for fabricating the FET device.

A pressure sensing device having a first sensing element, a second sensing element and a sensing circuit. The first and second sensing elements have one or more piezoresistive materials. The first sensing element has a first gradient along a longitudinal axis thereof having a first direction. The second sensing element has a second gradient along a longitudinal axis thereof having a second direction. The first direction of the first gradient is opposite to the second direction of the second gradient. The sensing circuit is (a) coupled to the first and second sensing elements and (b) arranged to sense at least one out of resistance and conductance of the first and second sensing elements to determine a magnitude and a location of a pressure applied on the first and second sensing elements along the longitudinal axes thereof.

High resolution pressure sensing

A system having an electronic device. The electronic device has an array of chemically sensitive sensors. The sensors detect volatile organic compounds and have field effect transistors. The transistors have non-oxidized, functionalized silicon nanowires. The nanowires have surface Si atoms. The device has a plurality of functional groups that form a direct Si&#x2014;C bond with the silicon nanowires, wherein Si is a surface Si atom and C is a carbon atom of the functional group. The functional groups are selected from the group consisting of: alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, heterocyclyl, heteroaryl, alkylaryl, alkylalkenyl, alkylalkynyl, alkylcycloalkyl, alkylheterocyclyl and alkylheteroaryl groups, and derivatives thereof, wherein said functional groups are other than methyl and 1-butyl. The plurality of functional groups are attached to 50-100% of the surface Si atoms.

Chemically sensitive field effect transistors and uses thereof in electronic nose devices

The present invention provides a system and method for diagnosing, screening or monitoring a disease by analyzing the breath of a test subject using a selected definitive sensor set in conjunction with a pattern recognition analyzer, wherein the pattern recognition analyzer receives output signals of the sensor set, compares them to disease-specific patterns derived from a database of response patterns of the sensor set to exhaled breath of subjects with known diseases, wherein each of the disease-specific patterns is characteristic of a particular disease, and selects a closest match between the output signals of the sensor set and the disease-specific pattern. The present invention further provides a method of diagnosing, screening or monitoring a disease based on the determination of levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from a universal biomarker set, including 2-ethylhexanol, 3-methylhexane, 5-ethyl-3-methyl-octane, acetone, ethanol, ethyl acetate, ethylbenzene, isononane, isoprene, nonanal, styrene, toluene and undecane.

System and method for differential diagnosis of diseases

A sensing device that may include sensing elements that elements comprise a first sensing element, a second sensing element; wherein each sensing element comprises one or more piezoresistive materials; and a sensing circuit that is coupled to the sensing elements, wherein the sensing circuit is configured to sense a resistance of the first sensing element and of the second sensing element, and to determine, based on the resistance of the first sensing element and of the second sensing element, a first parameter of a cardiac waveform of a living being, wherein the cardiac waveform (a) is sensed by the first sensing element, and (ii) is not sensed by the second sensing element.

The present invention is directed to a sensor having continuous and discontinuous regions of conductive metallic nanoparticles capped with an organic coating which enables the detection of volatile organic compounds and/or water vapor. Continuous regions may exhibit a positive response upon exposure to volatile organic compounds and to water vapor, while discontinuous regions exhibit a positive response upon exposure to volatile organic compounds and a negative response upon exposure to water vapor.

A device having a nano-wire array and a method for manufacturing an array of nano-wires. The method includes spraying on a substrate droplets of a suspension that comprises nano-wires and at least a partially volatile solvent; and evaporating the at least partially volatile solvent of the droplets to form the array of nano-wires. At least one of the spraying and the evaporating comprises executing at least one aggregation reduction measure for limiting a formation of three dimensional aggregations of nano-wires on the substrate.
