A drive device for an all-wheel drive, two-track motor vehicle, in the drive train of which a first motor vehicle axle and, via a center clutch, a second motor vehicle axle are driven permanently by a drive assembly in driving operation. In the closed state of the center clutch, the second vehicle axle is engaged with the drive train, and, in the open state of the clutch, the second vehicle axle is decoupled from the drive train. In a driving situation with engaged all-wheel drive as well as with axle friction coefficients of varying size, a greater wheel torque can be taken up at the vehicle axle with a large axle friction coefficient than at the vehicle axle with a small axle friction coefficient, and a control instrument is provided, which, for engine torque limitation, limits the drive assembly to a maximum allowed engine torque.

A motor vehicle automatic gearbox, with infinitely-variable ratio, may be operated in a constant speed mode, or in an acceleration mode in which the motor revolution speed is increased or reduced in steps.

A motor vehicle drive arrangement including a motor and a stepless automatic transmission for driving drive wheels has a normal operating mode for normal driving operation and a brake engagement operating mode for a situation of excessive slip of a drive wheel. During the brake engagement operating mode, strong fluctuations of the transmission ratio could arise, or the vehicle might drive with a low motor torque but a high drive rotational speed, which are uncomfortable for the driver. To increase driving comfort, a normal motor torque value is prescribed in the normal operating mode, and in the brake engagement operating mode the motor torque is reduced to an actual motor torque value. A difference torque is determined between the normal and actual motor torque values. A maximum desired nominal drive rotational speed is varied dependent on the difference torque.
