The invention relates to a method for operating a UV radiation source of the low-pressure gas discharge type. Said method comprises the following steps:&#x2014;impingement of at least one heating coil with a heating voltage until the temperature of said coil has been increased;&#x2014;impingement of the heating coil with a starting voltage in order to induce a gas discharge;&#x2014;maintenance of the gas discharge by the application of a maintaining voltage and the disconnection of the heating voltage after the gas discharge has been started; in addition the following steps are preferably executed at any point in the method;&#x2014;interrogation of an identification means that is connected to the UV radiation source and&#x2014;if the response to the interrogation is negative, prevention or interruption of the operation,&#x2014;if the response to the interrogation is positive, authorization of the operation. The invention also relates to a UV radiation source comprising a base body () and at least one connection zone which bears a number of electric connections (), whereby an identification means () that can be interrogated electrically is connected to the base body (); and to a UV disinfection facility for fluids, in particular for water or waste water, said facility comprising at least one UV radiation source and an electric control and supply circuit that is located at a distance from the radiation source, whereby the control and supply circuit comprises an interrogation means which is suitable for verifying the presence of an identification means which is optionally assigned to the UV radiation source(s).

Method and device for operating a uv-radiation source

The invention relates to a UV radiation device for the treatment of fluids, in particular water or waste water. The device includes a radiation chamber through which the fluid can flow in one direction. The radiation chamber essentially comprises a rectangular cross-section and is bordered by two side walls as well as a base wall and a ceiling wall. The side walls and the base wall comprise a non-metallic material. Additionally, a number of lamp units are provided. The lamp units each have a radiation source and a cover tube surrounding the radiation source, and, the lamp units are essentially cylindrical in shape. The lamp units lamp units in at least one cross-direction are arranged towards the flow direction. The distance between two walls diagonally facing each other is less or equal to the discharge length of the radiation source.

UV radiation device for treating fluids with a simplified radiation chamber

The invention relates to a device for exposing liquids to X-rays, which, seen in the direction of flow, comprises an intake chamber ( ), an X-ray chamber ( ) and a discharge chamber ( ). The X-ray chamber has X-ray sources ( ) which are either aligned in rows and/or stacked parallel to the flow ( ). The device is designed as a channel with open top ( ), and a containment wall ( ) is provided across the direction of flow ( ), between the intake chamber and the X-ray chamber. The containment wall ( ) is sized so as to cover part of the channel cross-section, while the lower edge of the containment wall ( ) is located at a distance of the channel base ( ). The outlet opening ( ) thus formed is so sized that, in case of a flow rate increase and starting from a flow rate of 1 m/sec, the liquid accumulates in front of the outlet opening ( ), resulting in the liquid level in the intake chamber ( ) being higher than in the X-ray chamber ( ).

Device and method for exposing liquids, including pretreated wastewater, to x-rays

The invention relates to a device and method for UV irradiation of treated waste water. The device comprises a plurality of UV modules, each UV module being an immersed radiator that comprises a low-pressure mercury radiator surrounded by a round sheathing tube permeable to UV rays. Each UV module is assigned to an irradiation chamber of square cross-section, the midpoint of which is also the midpoint of the UV radiator. The distance between the UV modules is selected in such a way that the cross-sectional area of the irradiation chamber of each UV module is not more than ten times larger than the cross-sectional area of the UV module itself.

Device and method for UV-irradiation, especially for disinfecting, flowing liquids with reduced UV-transmission

A device for determining the level of UV-transmission through a flowing media This UV-transmission is determined by measuring and evaluating the radiation intensity of a UV-radiation source radiating through a zone of the medium. The emitting surface of the UV-radiation source partly extends into the flowing medium and partly into a reference space, or borders on the medium and the space. Two UV-sensors are directed at zones of equal irradiation intensity of the radiation source emitting surface. In this case, the one UV-sensor is arranged in the flowing medium and the other UV-sensor in the reference space. Both UV-sensors are connected to a measuring and evaluating circuit, which compares and evaluates the signals of the UV-sensors.

Device for the continuous determination of the UV-transmission through flowing or running media

A device for treating waste water with UV-radiation is in the form of an upwardly open channel with a bottom surface and two vertical side walls, which includes a UV-irradiation chamber and a downstream outlet chamber adjoining the UV chamber. UV-radiation sources are installed in the irradiation chamber. A damming wall terminating the outlet chamber is in the form of an extension of the channel bottom raised upwardly in a slanted way at a flat angle to the direction of flow. A multitude of tubes extending perpendicular to the direction of flow of the waste water are present on the slanted damming wall. These tubes are open at both ends. The top ends of the tubes form overflow edges for the waste water. The damming wall has openings in the locations where the tubes are secured on the damming wall. These openings correspond to the cross sections of the tubes, so that the waste water flowing across the overflow edges of the tubes can drain off through the openings.

Apparatus is provided for irradiating liquid or gases by means of UV-light, consisting of a tubular body through which the medium to be irradiated flows, and at lest two UV-light sources with reflectors arranged externally to the tubular body and having parallel axes. The UV-light sources are flat radiators facing the tubular body with their narrow sides.
