A ship propulsion () with at least a fixedly positioned transmission unit () secured to the hull () of the ship and a propulsion unit () located on the exterior of the hull. The ship propulsion () facilitates pivoting of the propulsion unit () around a control axis (), via a control device (). The control device has a control motor () and at least one control transmission (). The control transmission is designed as a reduced planetary transmission, which comprises two central gears () and a planetary gear carrier () with at least two planetary gears (), and coaxial positioned with reference to the control axis.

Controller for a ship's propulsion

A planetary gear train having planetary gears () which are rotatably mounted on a planet carrier () and are in toothed contact with an internally toothed ring gear () and a sun gear (). For a simplified, process-safe and inexpensive backlash of the planetary gears () without axial displacement of the sun gear (), the ring gear () and the planetary gears () are conically designed so that planetary gear axles () are retained in the planetary gear carrier () at an inclined angle (a) and that the planetary gears () are axially movably disposed upon and coordinated with the planetary gear axles () and the position of the planetary gears () can be adjusted within the planetary train by adjusting mechanisms for adjusting a backlash.

Proposed is a planetary drive, having a rotationally driven sun gear ( ) disposed coaxially to principal drive axis ( ), with a an internal gear ( ) affixed within housing ( B) and possessing a rotatably supported planet carrier ( ), about which a plurality of circumferentially apportioned planet gears ( ) are rotatably seated, which are in complementary tooth engagement with the sun gear ( ) and with the internal gear ( ), whereby the planet carrier ( ) forms the output drive and in common with an output side output drive shaft ( ) is supported within the housing by an axially installed inclined bearing pair, comprised of a first inclined bearing ( ) and a second inclined bearing ( ). Further proposed is that at least the first inclined bearing ( ) is affixed with its inner ring ( ) in the housing ( A) and the outer ring ( ) of the bearing is to rotate with the planet carrier ( ) and having its pressure lines ( ) forming a pressure cone, the apex ( ) of which points away from the second inclined bearing ( ).

Planetary gear

The planetary gear according to the invention comprises a sun gear (,) connected to a driven central shaft (,), a ring gear (,), a group of first stepped planetary gears (,) and a group of second stepped planetary gears (,). The large step wheels (,) of the second stepped planetary gears engage the sun gear (,), the small step wheels (,) of the second stepped planetary gears simultaneously engage a pair of adjoining large step wheels (,) of the first stepped planetary gears and all small step wheels (,) of the first stepped planetary gears engage the ring gear (,). The gear allows for high transmission ratios having a small size and low inertia moment and offers excellent properties in relation to efficiency and transmission reliability.

High reduction planetary gear with intermediate shafts

A direct drive for a drill bit in a drill string has a fluid-operated motor within a drive section connected by a gear section to a bearing section whose inner tube is coupled to the drill bit to accommodate axial displacement of the drill bit within the outer tube, spring elements are braced against a radial bearing for the inner tube which has at least one axially defined race. The coupling between the inner tube and the gearing also accommodates such axial displacement and a reservoir for oil is located between the drive and gear sections so that oil can be fed to the gearing, the bearings and to an axial bearing in an annular oil-filled space between the drive and gear sections.

Direct drill bit drive

A shaft transmission has coaxial tubular input and output shafts extending forwardly and backwardly from the transmission. Front and rear planet assemblies in the transmission include respective sun gears, planet carriers, and ring gears. The front planet carrier is fixed on an outer shaft enclosing the entire transmission. The rear sun gear is fixed rotationally to the input shaft. The rear planet carrier is fixed rotationally both to the front sun gear and to the output shaft. The rear ring gear is fixed rotationally to the front ring gear. Such a transmission divides the load between the front and rear planet assemblies while giving a substantial stepdown in the neighborhood of 4:1. In addition the input and output shafts form a throughgoing passage through which a fluid medium, such as drilling mud, can be passed.
