An apparatus for coiling webs of material, more particularly webs of material (5) arriving from a ribbon casting machine, and for coiling the webs of material (5) if necessary. For the purposes of guiding and coiling, brush rollers (20, 21, 23-26) are used consisting of axially spaced-out annular disc-shaped brush elements between which guide elements (27) extending in the direction in which the ribbon runs are disposed, which prevent the web of material (5) of low rigidity from becoming wound around a brush roller (20, 21, 23-26).

Apparatus for guiding and more particularly coiling webs of material

A contact pressure parting device for applying a continuously moving metal strip (1) to a winding reel (2). The contact pressure device comprises a contact pressure element (7) which is disposed on the rear side of the strip (1) remote from the winding reel (2) by which the strip (1) can be forced on to the winding reel (2), which is provided with an adhesive (3). The contact pressure and parting device also has a blade (8) which is disposed downstream of the contact pressure element (7), viewed in the direction of strip travel, and can be advanced against the rear side of the strip (1) and which when its cutting edge (8a) impinges on the strip (1) parts the strip (1), the blade (8) then being swung away from the strip (1) and the winding reel (2). In its starting position the cutting edge (8a) of the blade (8) is disposed upstream, viewed in the direction of strip travel, of the place (P) on the strip (1) situated closest to the pivoting axis (12) of the blade (8). Since as it is being swung away the blade (8) must pass through its zenith in relation to the strip (1), the strip (1) is reliably parted even when the blade is slowly advanced in its direction.

The invention relates to an apparatus for the production of cast metal strip of amorphous and/or compact grained structures. To enable the strip to be coiled on reels at high strip speeds, the strip 6 is guided at the outlet of the casting apparatus 1-6 having a casting wheel 4 over a first and second strip guide channel. The first strip guide channel is formed by at least one cooling wheel 9, 11 and a guide wall 10, 12 disposed concentrically of the cylindrical surface of the cooling wheel 9, 11. By means of a cooling medium the strip is forced against the cylindrical surface of the cooling wheel 9, 11 and thereby intensively cooled at a high conveying speed and without tensile stress. When it leaves the or each cooling wheel 9, 11 the strip 6 is strong enough to pass freely guided through the perpendicularly disposed second guide channel 14. Disposed at the outlet of the guide channel 14 is a gripping device 16 which seizes the strip 6, so that the strip guide channel 14 is no longer required for guidance and is therfore removed. By means of a contact pressure and parting device 24 movable against the strip 6, the strip can be forced with uninterrupted conveying against a coiling reel 19, 20 and be glued on by means of an adhesive coating. Preferably a roller device 29 to 34 is associated with the cooling wheel 11 in the first guide channel.

The invention relates to a process and apparatus for the casting of metal strands, more particularly in the form of strips. The molten metal emerging from a slotted die 2 is applied to the cooling surface of a cooling member 1 which is moved past the slotted die 2. Allowing for the law of solidification, at the start of casting the strip outlet side die lip is gradually increased from a minimum distance from the cooling surface to the required final distance in such a way that the free gap between the wedge-shaped developing solidification front of the cast strip 7 and the die lip 5 remains small enough to prevent the molten metal from flowing out through the gap in an uncontrolled manner. The end face edge of the slotted die 2 can be borne via one or more gas cushions on the cooling surface and the free surface of the cast strand.
