The present invention provides a method for producing beer comprising filtering beer through a porous membrane until such time that the porous membrane is in need of cleaning, contacting the porous membrane with an enzyme selected from the group consisting of cellulases, amylases, and combinations thereof, particularly a cellulase having a crystalline:soluble cellulose activity ratio at 60 minutes of at least about 0.1, to clean the porous membrane, and then reusing the porous membrane to continue filtering beer. The present invention further provides a method for producing beer comprising filtering beer through a porous membrane that progressively clogs during filtration, monitoring the streaming or zeta potential of the porous membrane as a measure of the extent of clogging of the porous membrane, halting filtration of the beer through the porous membrane before the porous membrane becomes fully clogged as determined by the streaming or zeta potential of the porous membrane, cleaning the porous membrane, and then reusing the porous membrane to continue filtering beer.

Method for producing beer

Specification discloses the use of a dynamic cross-flow filtration system for the filtration of mash. Also disclosed are a mashing process, wherein mash is filtered and wort is obtained, and a process for the preparation of beer, as well as apparatuses and devices for performing one or more of these process.

Mashing process

A dynamic filter system comprises a dynamic filter assembly including one or more filter elements and one or more members disposed within a housing. The filter elements and the members are interleaved and arranged to rotate with respect to one another.

A method of testing the integrity of a filter element in a falter assembly includes a) wetting filter material of a filter element having an inlet side and an outlet side connected to an outlet conduit, b) subjecting the inlet side of the filter element to a gas pressure, c) measuring the pressure in the outlet conduit as a function of time, with a downstream outlet valve for the outlet conduit being closed, and d) determining whether the pressure measured at a preselected time exceeds a reference pressure by a predetermined amount, or determining whether the time required to reach a preselected pressure is shorter than a reference time by a predetermined amount.

Method and apparatus for rapidly testing the integrity of filter elements

An apparatus and a method are provided for separating a feed fluid into a filtrate and a concentrate. A filtrate chamber is divided into several separate filtrate subchambers, each of which is connected to a different portion of a partially permeable wall or membrane to receive that part of the filtrate passing therethrough. A relative motion is induced between the feed fluid and the wall or membrane by a rotating part, thus preventing clogging of the membrane. Sensors are provided in the filtrate subchambers, permitting information about a dynamic separation process to be obtained.

Dynamic filter separator and separation process

An arrangement for connecting two parts of a fluid system, preferably an aseptic system, by which the pressure gradient acts from the outside to the inside. The one system part carries an O-ring in a groove open to the other system part and open radially outwardly and the other system part is pressed against the O-ring by an axial holding device. To avoid dead space, in which bacteria could deposit, a space formed by the O-ring, the two system parts and the axial holding device is provided with a communication to the surroundings.
