A modular gas measuring system with a basic unit () with electric supply and data lines connected to it, a measuring unit (), which is equipped with a gas sensor and with a microprocessor and is connected to the basic unit () by means of snap closures to form a functional unit. At least one expansion module, is accommodated by the functional unit. The modular design, of optionally accommodating different expansion modules, so that the properties and the possible applications of the gas measuring system can be expanded in a simple manner.

The sensor ( ) can be connected in a simple manner both with the suction side ( ) or the pressure side ( ) of the measured gas pump ( ). To accomplish the object, a plug-in adapter ( ) is provided, which has a first measuring channel ( ) that is in flow connection with the sensor ( ), whereby the plug-in adapter ( ) can be connected with the measured gas pump ( ) in two positions in such a way that a connecting branch ( ) of the first measuring channel ( ) is connected in a first position of the plug-in adapter ( ) on the pressure side ( ) and in a second position on the suction side ( ) of the measured gas pump ( ).

A mobile measuring instrument that can be worn on the body of persons with a springless holder (1) for detachable fastening to pieces of clothing, with the following features: a plate (8) has a recess (9) with a cutout on one of two shorter sides; a flat slide element has a guide element (12) and is displaceably connected with same to the plate (8) via the cutout (10); both the plate (8) and the slide element (11) are provided with mutually parallel pins (2, 3; 4, 5) on the opposite, longer sides of the plate (8); the pins (2, 3) of the plate (8) are held stationarily rotatably in the housing (6) of the measuring instrument (7); and the pins (4, 5) of the slide element (11), which are arranged in two guides (17) in the housing (6) of the measuring instrument (7), are displaced between a maximum and a minimum distance from the pins (2, 3) of the plate (8), depending on the path of displacement of the slide element (11).

A device is provided for taking swab samples and sample dilution. The device has a plug made of a porous, absorbent material, which projects from a sleeve and is used to take a swab sample. The plug is located in one end of the sleeve. A piston, which can be moved in the sleeve by means of a piston rod, is located in the other end of the sleeve. A closure, which can be opened by means of pressure, is located between the piston and the plug, so that a liquid arranged between the piston and the plug moves through the closure to the plug and wets same on actuation of the piston rod.

Device for taking swab samples and sample dilution

A detecting device in the form of a testing tube or dosimeter having a carrier indicating a color reaction requires a reagent liquid for carrying out a measurement. The reagent liquid is contained in a separate reagent supply vessel and the carrier is impregnated with a color indicator. For carrying out a measurement, the reagent supply from the supply vessel must be brought into contact with the porous carrier. A uniform wetting of the surface of the carrier subjected to the reagent solution is achieved after the reagent solution is emptied from the supply vessel. This is achieved by providing a reagent collection chamber between the carrier and the reagent supply vessel into which the reagent solution pours when the supply vessel is opened and wherein the reagent solution is accommodated and into which the carrier extends so that its end face is subjected to the reagent solution so that this end face can be wetted at the same time.

The present invention pertains to a multiple holder for test tubes, which receives a plurality of individual test tubes for the simultaneous flow-through of a gas sample with the gas entering the tubes through at least one opened end, from a connection piece which has a flow outlet. The multiple holder of the invention receives commercially available test tubes with fused tips and includes an arrangement to simultaneously open all the test tubes introduced. To achieve this, the multiple holder 1 is designed such that at least one section 6, 6a can be tilted down, as a result of which the tips 8 of all the test tubes 2 introduced can be broken off simultaneously at least at one end.

A method and device for the opening of breakable ampules, especially glass test tubes, includes a scoring tool for scratching the end which can be removed by a break-off device. A clean scratching of the ampule end can be executed, producing a smooth fracture by applying an ever constant force exerted on the ampule ends, in order to avoid lengthwise scratches in the body of the ampule from internal stresses. For this, an ampule receiver is provided, into which the ampule can be introduced as far as a stop. It is then rotated while lodged herein with the end of the ampule against the scoring tool. The scratched end of the ampule can be broken off when the ampule is advanced beyond a breaking step.

A folded record medium for two to four different, segmentally arranged information portions is configured so that the interrelated segments of the information portions are easily accessible in a meaningful arrangement. According to the invention, this is achieved by the fact that the record medium comprises square sheets, which are joined together along a first fold line, and the connected pairs of sheets are joined together, stairway fashion in the unfolded state, along a second fold line, perpendicular to the first fold line and having the length of one side of a sheet.

A housing contains a diffusion indicator tube provided with a predetermined breaking point and the housing has an upper part and a lower part joined together by a film hinge. To open the inserted diffusion indicator tube its predetermined breaking point is positioned opposite the film hinge. By bending the housing parts, the break-off end breaks off the test tube at the predetermined breaking point, thereby opening the reaction section. The parts of the test tube are removed, and then the reaction section is pushed into the upper part, now with its closed end first, whereupon it is snapped into the lower part. Its opening at the bottom shoulder of the lower part is exposed to the ambient atmosphere which diffuses into it. In the presence of the gas to be monitored there will be discoloration due to reaction. The discoloration can be observed continuously through the open side of the holding means.

A sampling tube arrangement of the type having elongated sampling tubes with closing caps made of elastic plastic material is disclosed in which a plurality of closing caps are joined one to another through severable webs connecting adjacent closing caps. Each cap is provided with a plug-in connection comprising a male part on one side and a female part on the other side to provide a reconnecting mechanism for reconnecting the closed tubes after the sampling has been completed.

A breathing alcohol testing device comprises a tube for blowing expiration air therethrough which has a first air entrance end and an opposite second end with means for accommodating a testing tube containing a gas detection substance. A pump is connected to the tube for moving expiration air through the tube and pressure sensing means are associated with the tube for sensing the pressure adjacent the entrance end for regulating the pump in accordance with the sensed pressure. In addition to the sensing of pressure, velocity may also be sensed and a control device is connected between the sensors and the pump so as to regulate the pump to start after the tube is engaged in a person's mouth and he begins expiring his breath into the tube and a certain pressure is generated at a certain velocity. The pump may be provided directly in the line ahead of the gas testing device for forcing the breathing air through the tube and through the testing device or it may be provided downstream of the testing device. When the pump is located downstream of the testing device the tube is provided with an additional socket having a valve regulation for admitting air into the tube in accordance with the sensed pressure conditions and velocity conditions in the operation of the pump.

Breathing alcohol testing device

A device for checking the functioning of a gas measuring apparatus which includes a tubular connection for the passage of a gas so that it can be directed through a tube mounted in the connection which has means therein such as a chemical for measuring the gas which is passing therethrough. The device comprises a translucent diffusing screen mounted on the tubular connection so as to be able to view through the screen and into the gas passage and a spring diaphragm connected to the tube having a side disposed in space relationship to the screen and viewable through the screen and gas between the screen and the diaphragm when the diaphragm is flexed in one direction in respect to the screen so as to position it closer to the screen. The diaphragm is also flexed by a pressure variation within the tube and on the exterior of the diaphragm, for example when the pressure conditions within the tube are not as to be expected for normal functioning so as to move the diaphragm in an opposite direction away from the screen and to render the diaphragm invisible when viewed through the screen and the gas. The diaphragm is advantageously made of a distinct color so that its appearance or disappearance from view is readily apparent.

A portable explosion-proof gas detection device, comprises a housing which defines an interior flameproof motor chamber with an electric motor in the chamber having a pump drive shaft which extends outwardly into a pump chamber having a rotor connected to the electric motor shaft. The rotor engages a hose connection which is arranged in an openable chamber and which is engaged by a rotor over a pump squeezing surface defined the housing surrounding wall. The hose is connected through a twin fitting to a holder for a testing tube which has an opening at each end is positionable in a tube holder so that its open end is oriented in an opening in the housing for the inflow of air through the tube and through the pump for discharge out of the housing. The apparatus includes a control knob which actuates an electrical control circuit which is magnetically actuable by rotation of the knob to energize the electric motor from a battery source which is also arranged within the housing. The housing includes a cover which includes an end and a top wall portion which, when lifted upwardly, provides an access to the contact tube holder and also to the pump tube fitting to permit the replacement thereof, if necessary.

A gas detector, comprises a housing having an interior cavity with a wall having a testing tube receiver with an opening therethrough into the cavity. Spaced above the wall and in alignment therewith, is a test tube receiving tube and, when a test tube is placed in the receiving tube, it actuates a switch to actuate a fan to draw a gas sample through the testing tube for testing purposes.
