A bearing ring ( ) for supporting a protective device of a rotating driveshaft is adapted to engage an annular groove of a component of the driveshaft, for example a joint yoke. The bearing ring ( ) has a basic ring portion ( ) which connects to a component of the protective device. The bearing ring also includes a bearing ring portion ( ) which engages the annular groove. The bearing ring ( ) is a composite component. The basic ring portion is produced from a different type of plastics than the bearing portion. A lubricating device (13) for a telescopic shaft has a lubricating element and a reservoir. The lubricating device (13) is inserted into a cavity (18) of the inner profiled tube (7). A protective device for a driveshaft (1) has a connecting cap (9) and sliding ring (10) for connecting to a joint yoke (4) of a universal joint (2). The connecting cap (9) connects with a protective cone (1 2). The protective cone (12) includes a fixing portion (16) which fixes it on the connecting cap (9) by one or several resilient locking elements (22) which are connected to the sliding ring (10). The resilient locking elements (22) enable the protective cone (12) to be axially slid onto the connecting cap (9) without requiring any additional auxiliary means. However, the locking elements (22) can only be opened by deliberately actuating at least one locking element by a tool, to enable access to the joint (2) for maintenance purposes.

The invention relates to a protective device which is supported on the two universal joints (2, 2') by connecting caps (8) and sliding ring. Furthermore, each connecting cap (8) is formed to allow a protective cone (12) to be connected thereto. Protective devices of said type provide protection against contact and are stationary, while the driveshaft (1) rotates. Each connecting cap (8) is attached by spokes (19) to a supporting ring (13) which supports the protective cone (12) from the inside. When the protective cone (12) is subjected to radial loads, for example if the driveshaft is stepped on unintentionally, the purpose of the above measure is to prevent the protective cone (12) from contacting the components of the universal joints (2, 2') which it covers. This measure ensures that in order to make the components of the universal joint (2, 2') accessible, for example for the purpose of sliding on a power take-off shaft, the protective cone can be made to be sufficiently resilient in the direction of the longitudinal axis, while at the same time being capable of accommodating high loads in the radial direction.

A protective device for telescopic driveshafts used in driving agricultural implements has two protective tubes (8, 9) which are axially inserted into, and overlap, one another. The tubes (8, 9) are adjustable relative to one another along their longitudinal axis (5) and are made of plastics. The outer protective tube (8) includes three circumferentially distributed pairs of ribs ( 13, 14). The ribs (13, 14) are arranged at a distance from one another and a groove (11) is formed between the ribs (13, 14). Guiding webs (15) are provided between pairs of ribs ( 13, 14). The webs (15) project inwardly towards the longitudinal axis (5) from the inner face (12) of the outer protective tube (8). The webs (15) also project inwardly towards the longitudinal axis (5) and serve to center and radially support the tube (9). The outer face of the outer protective tube has a smooth finish. Thus, there are no projections which may possibly injure the operative when unintentionally rotating the protective device.

A length adjusting mechanism for a driveshaft has two tubular profiles, an outer profile (6) and an inner profile (7). The outer profile (6) includes two circumferentially offset drawn in wedges (8) which project inwardly beyond the inner face of the otherwise circular cross-section of the outer profile (6). The wedges (8) engage grooves (11) of an inner profile (7). The grooves (11) are also drawn in. In this way it is possible to produce a pair of profiles which are suitable to transmit high torques and which, furthermore, do not include any parts which project in a radially outward direction.

A sealing assembly for the arms (6) of a cross member (5) of a universal joint has a seal (16) with a fixing portion (17) including a bore (18) which rests on the arm (6). In the region of its bore (18), the fixing portion (17) includes axially extending grooves (19) which open towards the bearing interior and the second end face (22) of the fixing portion (17), respectively. Towards the outside, the grooves are closed by a sealing lip (25). The sealing lips (30, 31), which have a sealing effect relative to the sealing face (32) of the bearing bush (7), are arranged at annular portions (28, 29). The sealing lip (30) closes under the pressure of lubrication. During the lubricating process, the lubricant is able to escape outwardly through the grooves (19) and the gap between the lifted sealing lip (25) and the annular shoulder (24). By separating the sealing function between the cross member and bearing bush when the two parts move relative to one another and the lubricating function via the channels, an improved sealing effect is achieved. When the internal pressure rises, the contact pressure of the sealing lip is adjusted by making use of the self-closing effect. The opening function of the sealing lip closing the lubricating grooves may accordingly be adjusted to the lubrication pressure which is usually higher.

A lubricating device for a propeller shaft with two tubular plunging profiles (2, 4) inserted into one another. The lubricating device has two formed parts (16, 21) and a connecting hose between the two. The first formed part (16) is arranged towards the inner end (12) of the inner plunging profile (4). The first formed part has a through-bore (17) which ends in apertures (14, 15) opening towards the region of transition between the plunging profiles (2, 4). The first formed part further includes a connecting sleeve (18) with a lubricating channel (19). The second formed part (21) is arranged in the region of the other end of the inner plunging profile (4). It is secured inside the inner plunging profile (4). The second part has a continuous lubricating channel (23) extending through a connecting sleeve (22). A lubricating nipple (24) is threaded into the other end of the lubricating channel (23). The two formed parts are connected by the hose (27) slid over the connecting sleeves (18, 22). The parts of the two plunging profiles (2, 4) slide on one another and are lubricated by pressing lubricant through the lubricating nipple (24).

A double joint provided with an arrangement for lubricating the centering devices which, via the lubricating nipple provided for a universal joint, may be supplied with lubricant. For this purpose, a hose is inserted centrally into the cross member into a threaded bore which communicates with the lubricating channels of the cross member. The hose extends into a lubricating channel in the centering device which is arranged so as to extend on the axis of the outer yoke of the universal joint. It supplies the centering device for the two universal joints, consisting of a sleeve and a journal, with lubricant. The flexible hose permits articulation of the outer yoke relative to the cross member without the hose leaving the lubricating channel. The articulation of the two parts relative to each other is accommodated by elastic deformation of the hose.

Centered double joint with lubrication

A drive shaft having an annular groove is placed in driving connection with a coupling sleeve by engagement members which constitute spherical balls radially movable within apertures in the coupling sleeve for engagement within the annular groove of the drive shaft. A locking ring engaging around the engagement members holds them in the locked position within the annular groove and when the mechanism is in the unlocked position, the locking ring is held axially away from the locked position by a latching member which engages within the apertures of the coupling sleeve to hold the locking ring in the unlocked position against the biasing force of a spring. A guide ring affixed to the coupling sleeve guides the locking ring by means of a gripping sleeve affixed thereto for movement relative to the coupling sleeve axially and nonrotatively with the guide ring including apertures through which the latching member engages when it is moved between the latched and the unlatched positions.

A clutch assembly capable of providing several predetermined settings, wherein the components which support springs applying torque are not subjected to bending loads. The settings are achieved in that a supporting ring supporting a pressure plate against a clutch housing is provided with radially outwardly extending cams which are offset relative to the center thereof with two rows of apertures being provided in a cylindrical face of the clutch housing which are axially offset and offset relative to the angle of rotation and which correspond to the cams of the supporting ring and within which the cams are engaged.

Adjustable friction clutch assembly

A shaft connecting mechanism is provided between a slip-on hub and a power takeoff shaft by means of a control ring which extends around the slip-on hub and which is formed to have a pressure screw extend through a threaded bore therein, the pressure screw engaging against a clamping wedge in the slip-on hub which is formed with a trapezoidal configuration generally conforming with the configuration of an axiallly extending groove formed in the slip-on hub. Blocking members are arranged in radial apertures in the slip-on hub and pockets are formed in the control ring. The pressure screw when angularly aligned with the clamping wedge, places the control ring in the locked position and when the pressure screw and the clamping wedge are angularly unaligned, the blocking members enter the pockets in the control ring.
