The invention relates to a plug pin for a light waveguide (LWG) which can be plugged in a pin bushing, comprising a core tube having a central aperture into which core the LWG can be inserted and which tube is enveloped by a sleeve made of a material which is softer than that of the core tube and which has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion. A plug connection which is low-loss in a large temperature range is obtained in that the wall thicknesses of the sleeve (3) and of the core tube (2) are proportioned so that the resulting coefficient of thermal expansion of the plug pin corresponds substantially to the value of the material of the pin bushing (4).

Plug pin for a light waveguide

The arrangement comprises a carrier (1) having fibre-guiding grooves (2), which carrier is made of glass-like carbon. In the manufacture of the carrier the fibre-guiding grooves are formed in a cured phenol-resin body preferably by means of an extrusion die whose shape corresponds to that of the fibre-guiding grooves to be formed. The phenol-resin body thus formed is converted into the glass-like carbon carrier by carbonization.

Arrangement for splicing optical waveguides and method of manufacturing

A basic body for an anode disc is provided with laminations which are situated at a short distance from one another. Pyrolytic graphite is provided in the narrow intermediate spaces between the laminations by deposition of carbon from the gaseous state. Because of the small distances between laminations, these intermediate spaces are quickly filled with pyrolytic graphite.

A thickened part (1) of a high-melting metal, which may contain emitter material, is formed on a carrier (2) of a high-melting metal. In order to manufacture such electrode structures in mass production and to obtain both various material transitions and combinations and optimum designs, the thickened part (1) is formed by reactive deposition from the gaseous phase (CVD method), preferably by laser-supported deposition from the gaseous phase.

Method of manufacturing an electrode for a high-pressure gas discharge

The invention relates to anodes for X-ray tubes and a method of producing same. Several layers are deposited one after another onto a substrate by means of chemical vapour deposition. The proposed combination of layers results in a proper bond to the substrate. The combination comprises a first layer of molybdenum or a molybdenum alloy; a second layer of a tungsten-molybdenum alloy and a third layer of tungsten or a tungsten alloy. The composition of the second layer varies over its thickness.

Method of producing an anode and anode thus obtained

In a rotary anode X-ray tube, comprising an anode disc which is mounted on a rotary shaft and which comprises a basic body of graphite, the anode disc is subject to such loads during the operation of the X-ray tube that a connection between the disc and the shaft is liable to fracture if it consists of pressed and sintered graphite. In order to counteract fracturing, the basic body is connected to the shaft by a bushing of pyrolytic or microporous graphite. A pyrolytic graphite bushing may be formed by deposition from the gaseous phase in situ or on a mandril, and should have a radial direction of growth. Both materials have a high strength and, moreover, a lower thermal conductivity in the radial direction. As a result, not only is the strength improved, but the thermal loading of the shaft bearings is also reduced.

Rotary-anode X-ray tube

An intermediate layer comprising several sub-layers is sandwiched between the support and a target layer of a rotary X-ray anode. The sub-layer of the intermediate layer which contacts the support and the sub-layer of the intermediate layer which contacts the target layer both consist of pure rhenium. Interposed between these two sub-layers is a further sub-layer consisting of a rhenium alloy containing at least one carbide-forming metal, for example tungsten, tantalum or hafnium. This construction of the intermediate layer provides a barrier against carbon diffusion, which barrier has substantially the heat conduction properties of metals and which offers a sufficient protection against the penetration of carbon into the target layer, even at temperaturers above 1500 K.

Rotary anodes for X-ray tubes

The focal path (4) of an anode disc in accordance with the invention is provided on a pyrographite ring (1) which is oriented so that the surfaces of higher thermal and electrical conductivity extend parallel to the axis of rotation (3) of the anode disc. As a result, suitable removal of heat can be ensured without thermal overloading of the bearings.
