There is described a novel tool and method for the isolation and pressure-testing of connections, such as welds, between a vessel and a nozzle or branch pipe. The nozzle testing tool comprises an improved seal that expands into sealing contact as testing pressure is increased. The tool can also be easily adjusted in order to accommodate variations in nozzle configuration.

Tool for hydro-testing a nozzle

There is described a method and an apparatus for testing or isolating a section of pipe, the apparatus comprising a cylindrical mandrel for insertion into a section of pipe, the mandrel including at least one portion of progressively increasing diameter, and at least one seal disposed around the mandrel and actuatable in response to applied fluid pressure to move along the increasing diameter portion of the mandrel, causing the seal member to radially expand into sealing contact with an inner surface of the pipe.

Apparatus for testing or isolating a segment of pipe

There is described an improved pipeline isolation tool for plugging a pipeline at a predetermined location, comprising a housing adapted for movement through a pipeline, the housing having first and second ends, seals disposed annularly about the housing, the seals being radially expandable into fluid sealing contact with an inner wall of the pipeline, and a plurality of braking members including grips for frictionally engaging the inner wall of said pipeline to lock the isolation tool in position against fluid pressure in the pipeline, the braking members being selectively and repetitively movable between a first position in which the grips are disengaged from the inner pipeline wall and a second position in which the grips engage the inner wall.
