A diaphragm machine including a drive unit for producing pulsating hydraulic fluid flows for driving the diaphragms, and a delivery unit for delivering a delivery medium and having pump chambers with volumes that can be varied by the movement of a respective diaphragm. Each pump chamber is connected by a pressure valve to a pressure line and by a suction valve to a suction line. The delivery unit includes at least two hydraulic bodies and a diaphragm body in which the pressure and suction lines are arranged. Each hydraulic body is connected to the drive unit, and formed between each hydraulic body and the diaphragm body is a cavity in which one of the diaphragms is arranged so that by production of the pulsating hydraulic fluid flows, the diaphragms are moved within the cavities and the delivery medium is periodically transferred from the suction line into the pressure line.

A hydraulically driven membrane pump, particularly a high pressure membrane pump, having a membrane which is held on its edges by a clamp between a pump housing and a pump cover, which membrane separates a pumping space from a hydraulic compression space, and may particularly be a metal membrane. A hydraulic membrane drive in the form of a reciprocating displacement piston is slidably mounted in a cylindrical bore in the pump housing, which piston is disposed between the compression space and a reservoir space for the hydraulic fluid. A leak replenishment device including a snuffle link in the form of a connecting channel between the compression space and the reservoir space, which snuffle link is normally closed off by an underpressure-controlled spring-loaded snuffle valve. The snuffle link between the compression space and the reservoir space is controlled via the position of the piston, wherewith the piston serves as the slide element of a slide valve which blocks the snuffle link between the compression space and the reservoir space, at least at the beginning of the suction stroke of the piston, and only opens the link when the piston has been retracted through a part of its suction stroke.

In a method and apparatus for measuring and monitoring the flow in oscillating displacement pumps, the basis for measurement used is the working principle of the pump itself and, accordingly, the mathematically unambiguous relation between the displacer kinematics and the compression or expansion time of the displacer is utilized, in particular via a microcomputer. For this purpose the compression time and expansion time are measured as the time difference between the back and the front dead point position of the plunger, respectively, and the coupling pressure peak at the beginning of the feeding process and the suction process, respectively, which is effected in particular by sensors.

In a diaphragm pump, which is provided with at least one diaphragm (1), which separates a delivery chamber (4) from a pressure chamber (5) filled with an hydraulic fluid and is clmaped at its edge between the pump body (2) and a pump cover (3), and with an hydraulic diaphragm drive in the form of an oscillating displacement piston (6), which is displaceable in the pump body (2) between the pressure chamber (5) and a storage chamber (7) for the hydraulic fluid, a method as well as an arrangement for starting under load is provided. For this purpose on the pump drive side between the pressure chamber (5) and the storage chamber (7) a connection channel (20) is provided. This connection channel (20) during start-up of the pump leads the hydraulic fluid displaced by the displacement piston (6) in the pressure chamber (5) back into the storage chamber (7) and in the course of the further strokes of the displacement piston (6) is closable by a controlled closing device (A), so that the pressure in the pressure chamber (5) rises up to the level of the discharge pressure.

In a stroke adjusting device on pumps, in particular proportioning pumps, a hydraulic actuation occurs due to the fact that a hollow shaft, which guides in its interior a sliding shaft, is formed as a hydraulic cylinder, in which the sliding shaft, designed as a double action hydraulic piston, is slidable axially in both directions by means of a hydraulic fluid. Owing to this, the required axial adjusting movement of the sliding shaft is not brought out of the hollow shaft axially to the outside, whereby the two ends of the hollow shaft are kept free for the coupling of several engines or pumps.

In a diaphragm pump with a diaphragm in the form of a rolling diaphragm that separates a delivery chamber from a fluid-filled pressure chamber and that with its peripheral edge is firmly clamped between a casing body and pump cover, and with an oscillating hydraulic piston which is displaceable in a bore of the casing body between the pressure chamber and a hydraulic reservoir, so as to actuate the diaphragm, the rolling diaphragm rolls alternatingly up an outer roll-off cylinder formed by the wall of the pressure chamber and off an inner roll-off cylinder formed by the peripheral surface of a support piston for the rolling diaphragm that is axially displaceable in the pressure chamber, the front surface of which support piston is connected with the corresponding surface section of the rolling diaphragm. The inner roll-off cylinder of the support piston shaped as a support plate gradually changes, in the rear limit position of the rolling diaphragm, into the outer roll-off cylinder by way of a support shoulder, which, for the completely mechanical support of the rolling diaphragm, together with the two roll-off surfaces forms a completely gap-free support surface adapted to the natural form and roll-off geometry of the rolling diaphragm.

In a diaphragm pump the diaphragm separating the delivery chamber from the working chamber is clamped between a cylinder body and a cylinder cover in pressure-balancing arrangement. For this purpose a pressure-balancing space is provided to be radially outside and to encircle said diaphragm clamping surface, the pressure balancing space communicating with the working chamber through at least one communicating passage. Furthermore, a separate annular seal member is disposed to be radially outside the pressure balancing space chamber between the cylinder cover and the cylinder body to seal-off the pressure balancing space and the working chamber from the outside. This enables the diaphragm pump to be used at discharge pressures far greater than 350 bars and simultaneously permits the use of plastic diaphragms which are reliable in operation and have a large displacement capacity.
