The invention relates to a coke dry cooling chamber with vertical outer walls constructed as cooling walls and parallel vertical cooling walls positioned in the cooling chamber, with supporting walls running crosswise to them. Pursuant to the invention, the cooling walls and supporting walls taper as they descend and the different coke cooling shafts created by them correspondingly broaden as they descend. A particular embodiment of the invention provides that diaphragm pipe walls constructed as cooling walls are equipped with flat outer abrasion plates. The space between the diaphragm walls, embodied in a pipe-stay-pipe construction, and the abrasion plates is filled with a highly heat-conductive material, graphite, for example.

Coke dry cooling chamber

The invention concerns a process for removing dust from coke cooled by a dry method after the coke has left the cooling zone of a cooling chamber, and a device for carrying out the process. A dust-free flushing gas is injected below the cooling zone, preferably parallel to the direction in which the coke moves when it has been cooled to below 200.degree. C., to draw the gas off above the discharge lock together with the stirred-up coke dust, and to recirculate the gas after the dust is removed from it. As an alternative, compressed air is blown through the coke after it has left the lock and while it is being transported through a vibrating machine. The coke is cooled in a dry cooling unit to below 200.degree. C. and preferably 130.degree. to 180.degree. C. The coke is then cooled outside the dry cooling unit by means of air at about 50.degree. to 90.degree. C. and preferably 70.degree. to 80.degree. C. Either simultaneously with or immediately after the cooling step with air, the coke is moistened, for example by sprinkling or spraying, to a residual moisture of 2% to 4% by weight and preferably 2% to 3% by weight.

Process for removing dust from dry cooled coke

A method of cooling and dedusting coke after leaving the coke dry cooling system comprises directing the coke at a temperature of approximately 150.degree. to 200.degree. C. into an immersion tank which has a liquid temperature of approximately 100.degree. C., thereafter conveying the coke out of the immersion tank at a selected variable speed so as to free it of fine dust. The water content of the coke after leaving the immersion tank and after an adequate evaporation time is controlled by the speed of the conveyor which is located in the immersion tank and the water content is advantageously kept below 5%, preferably from 0 to 3%. The immersion tank comprises a closed housing overlying a box-shaped tank with a continuously revolving chain conveyor located so as to extend through the tank at its upper reach for conveying the coke into the tank and which has a lower return reach which is directed outside of the tank below the tank itself.

Method for cooling and dedusting dry cooled coke

An apparatus for dry cooling red-hot coke having an antechamber with a small discharge leading to a vertically elongated cooling chamber which is of larger dimension than the discharge and with both the cooling chamber and the antechamber having fluid cooling tubes in one or more walls and the ceiling thereof and also having a cooling tube bank in the shape of truncated pyramid comprising trapezoidal walls diverging downwardly from the discharge of the antechamber into the cooling chamber.

Apparatus for dry cooling red-hot coke

A waste heat boiler system includes a vertically elongated waste heat boiler having an upper portion with a waste gas inlet and a lower portion with an exhaust line connection which in addition to its vapor generating tubes includes evaporator tube nests and a water preheater. The waste gases are received from a dry coke cooling vessel and they are delivered through a separator by a blower to the lower end of the coke cooling vessel for flow upwardly through the hot coke. The superheater is mounted over the waste heat boiler and has a connection through a controllable valve to the top of the waste heat boiler. The superheater includes its own burner and air and external gas supply are supplied to the combustion chamber for the superheater along with bypass portion of the circulated waste gases. The steam generated by the boiler is delivered from a steam cylinder or drum in the superheated tubes of the superheater. Some of the gases from the superheater are selectively delivered to the waste heat boiler and some are discharged through atmosphere.

A method of dry cooling red-hot coke in a vessel having an antechamber with a small discharge leading to a vertically elongated cooling chamber which is of larger dimension than the discharge and with both the cooling chamber and the antechamber having fluid cooling tubes in one or more walls and the ceiling thereof and also having cooling tube bank diverging downwardly from the discharge of the antechamber into the cooling chamber, comprises directing the red-hot coke to be cooled downwardly through the antechamber and into the cooling chamber so as to maintain a charge of coke in the cooling chamber to the conical charge cone of the cooling tubes adjacent the top of the cooling chamber which extends downwardly below the discharge, thereafter circulating a coolant through the cooling tubes to effect transfer of sensible heat from the coke to the fluid and directing a cooling gas from the bottom of the cooling upwardly through the coke and above the entire area of the coke charging cone and then into an exhaust duct to one or more waste heat boilers.

A method and apparatus of cooling retort coke is disclosed which provides for cooling hot coke from a coking chamber by direct heat exchange with fine-grained material, preferably coal, and the subsequent separation of the fine-grained material from lump coal which would form the cooling step.

A device and method for dry cooling incandescent coke comprises a closed cooling chamber having a coke inlet, for example, at its top end and a coke delivery or discharge at its bottom end which is subdivided by a plurality of vertical walls so as to leave coke flow spaces between the walls. The walls are constructed to define a continuous meandering path for coolant which is circulated through the walls during the flow of coke therethrough. The walls comprise superposed ducts arranged vertically one over the other and which for example are welded together and which have respective ends connected to a superjacent or subjacent duct so as to form a continuous meandering coolant flow passage. The coolant is circulated through inlet and outlet connections arranged exteriorly of the chamber and the coke flow and coolant flow are controlled through the chamber as desired to affect the cooling rate selected.

A method for the dry cooling of coke comprises transferring the coke from the coke oven to a special bucket which is moved over a charging hole of a cooling pit. The space between the bucket and the charging hole is closed off and sealed against the atmosphere and a shutter which closes the top of the charging hole is moved upwardly and then transversely off the charging hole to open it as an intermediate charging guide piece is moved in position between the hole and the bucket for the transfer of the coke therebetween. The space between the bucket and the charging hole is sealed by a frame of a sluicing device in which the shutter and the intermediate charging hole guidepiece is movable. The device advantageously runs on wheels which are located outside the frame which seals the sapce between the charging bucket and the charging pit. The frame of the sluicing device advantageously includes a sealing element which engage into a recess seal combined around the charging hole.

Briquettes made from bituminous or sub-bituminous coal or peat are produced by grinding the coal, mixing it with a binder and compacting the mixture. They are then carbonized in a continuous process in a shaft oven. The coal may be predried and the finished briquettes may be preheated, with a subsequent drying and hardening. The carbonization is effected in two stages in an indirectly heated shaft oven, with the evolved gas being taken off about at the mid-height of the oven shaft, processed, and used for heating in the second, high-temperature stage. The flue gases from this high-temperature stage are used for heating in the first stage and for preheating. The second or high-temperature stage is followed by a cooling stage where the gases evolved in the second stage, and mainly comprising hydrogen are used and circulated. The evolved gas in excess is continuously removed from the cooling circuit.

Apparatus for dry cooling of coke

A method for the gasification of coke is disclosed in which coke produced in a coking chamber and having a temperature of 900.degree. C. to 1100.degree. C. is forced into a coke bucket, after coking in the coking chamber, and fed by means of hot coke conveyors without substantial temperature changes to a gasifier. The coke is gasified in the gasifier while adding at least one of oxygen and air, and steam and carbon dioxide.
