The invention concerns a method for isolating and purifying nucleic acids from large sample volumes and a device suitable for this. The device comprises a funnel, a separating column, and a tab which are detachable from each other. The method according to the invention in which the device according to the invention is used ensures a higher yield of nucleic acids.

Method and device for purifying nucleic acids

The invention provides the use of tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether for adsorbing nucleic acids to solid phases such as those with silica surfaces. To this end, the invention also provides compositions comprising TDE. Methods are disclosed and claimed to purify nucleic acids from samples, as well as kits useful for performing these methods. Particularly, the invention encompasses methods for the purification of nucleic acids with low molecular weight. The nucleic acids purified by a method of the invention are suited for assays aiming at the detection of a target nucleic acid.

Use of TDE for isolation of nucleic acids

The invention provides the use of water-miscible liquid cyclic acetals for adsorbing a nucleic acid to a solid phase such as a substrate with a silica surface. To this end, the invention also provides compositions comprising said acetals. Methods are disclosed and claimed to purify nucleic acids from samples, as well as kits useful for performing these methods. The nucleic acids purified by a method of the invention are suited for assays aiming at the detection of a target nucleic acid.

Use of acetals for isolation of nucleic acids

The present invention is related to compounds comprising six-membered rings capable of being incorporated into nucleic acids. Particularly, the six-membered ring is a derivative of cyclohexane, cyclohexene, tetrahydropyran, tetrahydrothiopyran or piperidine. These compounds may be used to build up oligomeric compounds. The invention is further related to uses of these oligomeric compounds for hybridization and as probes. In addition, methods for the detection of nucleic acids are provided wherein the oligomeric compounds are used.
