A method of producing a collar on a cylindrical composite fiber body, wherein the composite fiber body has a longitudinal axis and wherein a plurality of layers of resin impregnated fiber windings are wound to form the composite fiber body, after which the resin is hardened, includes the following steps: (a) forming a bead by winding resin impregnated fiber windings circumferentially about the cylindrical composite fiber body such that the bead has continuously rising flanks on both longitudinally spaced sides; (b) providing two clamping sleeves, each clamping sleeve having an end face extending substantially orthogonally to the longitudinal axis of the composite fiber body, a conical surface portion adjacent the end face, and an interior surface portion which is adjacent the conical surface portion and which conforms to the outer surface of the cylindrical composite fiber body; (c) applying the clamping sleeves about the composite fiber body while the composite fiber body is still wet, such that each end face lies against a respective one of the flanks; (d) tightening the clamping sleeves about the composite fiber body while the composite fiber body is still wet; (e) forming a collar between the end faces while the composite fiber body is still wet, by winding resin impregnated fiber windings circumferentially about the bead; and (f) loosening and releasing the clamping sleeves.

Method for producing collar reinforcements on cylindrical composite

A method of producing an elongate article comprises the step of providing, by winding a filament, a plurality of superposed layers to form a hollow cylinder having open ends. At least one of the layers is formed of a circumferential winding and at least one of the layers is formed of a cross winding. The cross winding has fibers having a negative coefficient of thermal expansion and is oriented at a predetermined inclined angle to the cylinder axis. The method further comprises the step of securing to the open ends of the hollow cylinder end pieces comprised of a material having a high surface hardness and dimensional stability. The inclined angle has such a magnitude that temperature-caused changes in the axial length of the hollow cylinder compensate for temperature-caused changes in the axial length of the end pieces.

Method of making elongate articles having high dimensional stability

A separating pot for glandless electrical or magnetic drive assemblies includes a pot jacket having a generally tubular body with two ends and a flange portion at one of the two ends, the pot jacket being composed of fiber reinforced plastic with the fiber being wound in alternating layers of circumferential windings and helical windings, and with the flange portion being composed of additional circumferential windings; a bottom member disposed within and closing off the other of the two ends of the pot jacket, the end of the pot jacket being an open end, the bottom member having a generally cup-shaped portion which includes a rim portion surrounding an interior bottom face, the rim portion facing the open end of the pot jacket and extending in an axial direction away from the interior bottom face, the bottom member being in a press fit with the pot jacket and being glued to the pot jacket, the rim portion having a generally conically-shaped interior surface which is enlarged in a direction away from the interior bottom face.

Separating pot for glandless electrical or magnetic drive assemblies

A tester for use in testing coordinate measuring devices includes a hub having a generally tubular body portion, an outer ring, and a plurality of spokes connected to the hub and to the outer ring, each of the spokes having a generally tubular body portion and extending radially from the hub. A plurality of holders are connected to respective ones of the plurality of spokes, and elements respectively supported by the holders are provided which are adapted for use in testing the coordinates of a measuring device. The generally tubular body portion of the hub and the generally tubular body portion of each of the spokes is composed of a bonded fiber material in which layers of circumferential windings alternate with layers of helical windings, and wherein the helical windings are wound of a fiber which has a negative coefficient of thermal expansion. The holders and the elements respectively supported by the holders are composed of a relatively hard material which has a small positive coefficient of thermal expansion.
