In an engine brake for a multicylinder Diesel engine having a cylinder head with at least one exhaust or decompression valve for each cylinder for controlling the discharge of gases from the cylinder, a high pressure fuel injection system with a common fuel supply line for distributing fuel under pressure to the various cylinders and with at least one camshaft-operated plug-in fuel pump for supplying fuel under pressure to the common fuel supply line, an engine brake actuating system is provided which includes, for every two cylinders operating at a 360.degree. crankshaft phase difference, a plug-in pump which concurrently operates the exhaust or decompression valves of the associated two cylinders, one at the end of its compression stroke and the other at the end of its exhaust stroke.

Engine brake for a multicylinder diesel engine

The invention relates to a soot-particle filter for after-treatment of the exhaust gases of diesel engines by oxidation and the supply of thermal energy. Exhaust-gas-permeable supporting tubes extend in a filter housing and have an applied catalytic filter winding, via which exhaust gases flow radially from outside to inside into the supporting tubes. An exhaust-gas-permeable insert with a catalytically effective surface is arranged in each supporting tube to thereby enhance the effectiveness of the filter without increasing its overall size.

Soot-particle filter for after-treatment of the exhaust gases of diesel

An engine brake arrangement for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine with at least one throttle valve per cylinder which, during braking operation of the internal combustion engine, is opened at times to connect a cylinder space with an exhaust conduit. To permit simple control of the opening and closing periods of the throttle valves, the latter are actuated by a hydraulic fluid, which is pumped by a pump with a single pressure-increasing and pumping element, and is distributed in a distributor with rotating channels to the individual conduits leading to a particular throttle valve.

Engine brake for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine

The invention relates to a compound turbo-drive for a two cylinder bank V-form internal-combustion engine with an exhaust-gas turbocharger for each cylinder bank that together feed a re-expansion turbine. To obtain a space-saving arrangement, the re-expansion turbine has a double-flow turbine housing with two integrated side inlet housings to which the exhaust-gas turbines of the exhaust-gas turbochargers are arranged horizontally.

Compound turbo-drive for an internal-combustion engine

The invention relates to a solenoid-valve-controlled injection device, comprising pump and nozzle, for an air-compressing internal combustion engine having an electromagnetically actuatable control valve. The valve stem of the control valve co-operates with a control slide which is designed as an inertia piston and, via its control bore and a bore arrangement in the valve stem, establishes a connection between a fuel injection line leading to the nozzle and a return line in order to divide the injection into a temporally staggered pre- and main injection.

Solenoid-valve-controlled fuel injection device, for an air-compressing

A four-stroke internal-combustion engine for a motor vehicle having inlet and exhaust valves is provided with additional outlet valves for each cylinder, which valves are adjustable by means of an actuating device and with a throttle flap arranged in the exhaust outlet, also adjustable by means of an actuating device. The actuating devices are operated by at least one directional valve, in response to actuation of a brake switch. Braking of the internal-combustion engine occurs as a result of the opening of the additional outlet valves and a throttling of the exhaust gases during the braking operation. The braking of the internal-combustion engine is speed-dependent in that engine braking is cancelled below a minimum specified speed.

Four-stroke internal-combustion engine

A regulation for a gas engine with a rotational speed probe for the crankshaft rotational speed, with a rotational speed-load-ignition angle-performance graph memory read out during each crankshaft rotation, with an ignition pulse generator controlled by the performance graph memory, with a lambda-probe, with a load probe, with a vacuum-controlled gas pressure adjusting device for the propulsion gas and with a flow-mixing device for the propulsion gas and the air. The invention provides a regulation for a gas engine which offers a full utilization of the possibilities of the gas engine above all in lean operation and in the partial load range. A rotational speed-load-lambda-performance graph (36) is provided for producing lambda-desired values. The lambda-desired values readied by the rotational speed-load-lambda-performance graph (36) are compared with the lambda-actual values under formation of a lambda difference value. For the adaptation of the ignition angle to the respective lambda actual value a lambda-difference value-load-ignition angle correction value performance graph (29) produces an ignition angle correction value which is added to the base ignition angle value of the rotational speed-load-ignition angle-performance graph (27), respectively, is subtracted therefrom.

Regulation for a gas engine

In a four-stroke internal combustion engine for driving a motor vehicle, a throttle flap holding back the exhaust gases during vehicle braking is arranged in the outlet channel. Each of the outlet valves controlled by a cam shaft via rockers has assigned to it a limiting device by means of which the stroke of the outlet valves is limited during braking to an amount which prevents the outlet valves from closing. To increase the engine braking power in an internal combustion engine of this type, the stroke of the outlet valves is limited to an amount at which the opened outlet valves achieve a braking effect, and there is a directional valve which is adjustable as a function of the brake-pedal travel and by means of which the throttle flap and the limiting devices can be actuated.

Engine braking control system

An externally auto-ignited four-stroke internal combustion engine which includes a combustion chamber disposed in an upper surface of a piston such that, in an upper dead-center position of the piston, the combustion chamber receives almost all of the fuel-air mixture. The combustion chamber includes a planar bottom portion and has a cross-sectional shape of a truncated cone expanding in a direction of the cylinder head. The internal combustion engine also includes a recess or depression provided in the cylinder head and disposed eccentrically with respect to a longitudinal center axis of the cylinder. The depression or recess in the cylinder head has the shape of a truncated cone expanding in a direction of the piston, with a spark plug projecting or penetrating into the recess or depression in the cylinder head. In order to enable the achievement of good combustion, increased overall engine performance, and the minimum amount of harmful components in the exhaust gases from the engine when different types of fuel are used, predetermined constructional parameters are selected with respect to the combustion chamber and recess or depression disposed above the combustion chamber as well as the disposition of the combustion chamber with respect to a longitudinal center axis of the cylinder.

Internal combustion engine

An externally ignited internal combustion engine, operable by a homogeneous fuel, wherein liquid fuel is completely vaporized and at an approximately relatively lean proportion is mixed with air to provide for quantity control of the fuel-air mixture. The quantity control remains limited to a lower part throttle or partial load range and above such range, fuel in a liquid condition is injected into the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine to enable a quality control over the fuel mixture. The injection of the fuel is carried out so that the injected jet of fuel does not contact the relatively cold wall parts of combustion chambers of the respective cylinders of the internal combustion engine.

Externally operated internal combustion engine

A control system for a mixture-compressing internal combustion engine with a throttle flap valve disposed in an intake manifold and an idle channel bypassing the throttle flap valve. An additional channel, terminating downstream of the idle channel in the intake manifold, with the additional channel merely forming an air channel. A valve is provided for controlling a communication between the additional channel and the intake manifold. The valve is connected with a diaphragm a back surface of which is adapted to be exposed to the intake manifold vacuum through a line connected to the intake manifold. A three/two-way on-off valve, influenced by a control device, is disposed in the line connected to the intake manifold. The on-off valve is adapted to vent the backside of the diaphragm when the intake manifold vacuum is above an idle value during a coasting of the engine so as to enable air to be introduced into the intake manifold through the additional channel.

Control system for internal combustion engine

A spark plug for internal combustion engines, especially a spark plug deeply arranged in a spark plug recess of the engine. The spark plug includes a mounting portion, a center electrode, and an insulating body. An extension arrangement is adapted to be attached to the spark plug for facilitating access thereto. The extension arrangement includes a center electrode, an insulating body, and a tubular jacket. The tubular jacket is provided at a first end with an inner cross section corresponding to a cross section of the mounting portion of the spark plug, with the inner cross section being adapted to be mounted over the mounting portion of the spark plug. A second end of the tubular jacket is provided with a further mounting portion.

Spark plug for internal combustion engines

An internal combustion engine driven by a gaseous fuel, with quantity regulation in a lower load range and quality regulation in an upper load range. A gas pressure regulator is provided for controlling a gas flow to an air-gas mixer, with a throttle valve actuatable by an accelerator pedal being arranged in an intake line downstream of the air-gas mixer, whereby the gas pressure regulator is movable in a closing direction through a control line, by a diaphragm by vacuum prevailing in the intake line in a vicinity of the throttle valve. A control valve, influenced by the accelerator in the quality control range, is disposed in a control line. The control line branches off the intake line upstream of the throttle valve or off the air-gas mixer. A throughput or through-flow cross section in the control valve decreases with increasing loads in a direct relationship to a position of the accelerator until the control valve closes at full load. The control line between the control valve and gas pressure regulator is connected to outside air through a fixed throttle.

A gas-operated internal combustion engine which includes a volume control valve for a gas supplied to an air/gas mixer. An air filter is arranged within a charged air supply arrangement and, between a diaphragm of the volume control valve in a section of the air charge supply, a pressure equalizing connection is provided which, starting from the air filter or from the air/gas mixer and extending in a direction toward the volume control valve includes a throttle and a blocking biased check valve. A conduit branches off in the pressure-equalizing line at a point between the air filter and the check valve, with the conduit leading through a diaphragm operated valve to the intake manifold. The valve is controllable by the intake manifold vacuum such that the conduit is blocked with a high value intake manifold vacuum and opened with a low value intake manifold vacuum. The conduit may also branch off from the pressure equalizing line at a point between the check valve and volume control valve with the conduit leading through two series connected diaphragm operated valves controllable by the intake manifold vacuum.

Gas-operated internal combustion engine

A control device for controlling a recycling of exhaust gases into an intake system of a self-igniting internal combustion engine which includes a signal generator, constructed as a pneumatic control slide valve mounted to a fuel injection pump. The signal generator is controlled by the respective instantaneous load conditions as a function of the rotational speed of the engine and the load on the engine by a non-reactive scanning of a position of a control rod associated with the fuel injection pump. The signal generator is coupled with the control rod and a pneumatic signal is transmitted by the signal generator in dependence upon a position of a control piston of the signal generator. The pneumatic control signal is transmitted to an adjusting member such as, for example, a pneumatic controller, compressed-air cylinder, or a valve, for each load condition of the engine associated with an exactly defined position of the control rod, with the control signal regulating an amount of recycled exhaust gases in accordance with an applied pressure.
