A portable fluorescent string lamp has a base which includes a threaded nut at each end. An electrical cord extends through each nut. A mounting bracket has a back and two legs spaced to receive the fixture. Each of the legs is releasably secured to the base of the fixture by tightening the coupling nut against it. The back of the bracket is designed to receive a pair of magnetic couplers for removably mounting the fixture to a structure such as a machine.

A wide area lamp for use in hazardous locations includes a metal halide lamp excited by a ballast. The lamp is mounted within an explosion-proof transparent globe and metal lamp guard secured to a metal vault. The vault is divided into two compartments. One compartment houses a ballast for the lamp. That compartment is filled with a potting compound to eliminate any arcing in the high voltage excitation circuit. The other compartment is enclosed, but accessible for making necessary electrical connectors to a power feed cord.

Wide area light fixture for hazardous locations

A fluorescent tube lighting fixture includes a tubular main frame member which also acts as a conduit for routing wires between the ballast and the lamp holders. A frame extension the form of a Tee is threaded onto one end of the main frame member; and another portion of the Tee receives an adapter which secures the end cap to the fixture. Wire is routed through the adapter, and through the Tee into the main tubular frame member, all of which portions cooperate to act as a protective conduit for the power cord, with a single opening in the end cap. By removing a single compression nut, the end cap and lamp guard can be moved to gain access to the interior of the lamp for maintenance.

Tube light with fluorescent lamps

A portable electric lamp suitable for use in hazardous locations has the fixture purged with breathable air a predetermined time before power is coupled to energize the lamps. The fixture is continuously purged during operation. If the internal pressure falls below a predetermined minimum level, or exceeds a predetermined maximum during operation, power to the lamps is shut off, and the complete start cycle, including the time delay, must be undertaken before the lamps can be re-started. All leads and components are either potted or operated at an intrinsically safe power level.

An improved portable handlamp has a fluorescent lamp mounted in a lens assembly. A flexible elastomer handle mounted to the base of the lens assembly provides a cavity for receiving a ballast in an interference fit. The ballast is connected to the lamp holder by a bracket which also serve to mount the actuating switch in a manner such that these components form a frame permitting the user to grasp the handle and maneuver the handlamp.

An electrical connector includes a plug assembly and a mating connector assembly. Additional protection against liquid penetration of the assembled connector is provided by a peripheral tongue-in-groove seal formed in the integrally molded housings of the plug and connector assemblies.

A portable fluorescent lamp fixture adapted for use with a plurality of fluorescent lamps includes an elongated center channel extending substantially the entire length of the fixture and disposed intermediate a pair of fluorescent lamps for providing a high strength, rugged structure. With a rubber end cap attached to each end of the center channel and a transparent protective tube comprised of polycarbonate or butyrate extending between the end caps and disposed about the center channel and fluorescent lamps, the lamp fixture is provided with a liquid-tight seal. The center channel includes an open lower portion along its length, having an inverted generally U-shaped cross-section, and is adapted to receive a removable snap-on cover along its entire length for enclosing lamp circuitry such as a ballast, a terminal block and wire leads. The removable cover facilitates access to lamp circuitry for maintenance. With a plug mounted to one end of the center channel and a receptacle mounted to its other end, the lamp fixture includes a quick connect/disconnect feature with power leads to other similar, serially coupled fluorescent lamp fixtures. Each end cap includes either a plug or receptacle integral with the end cap for mating with either a center channel receptacle or plug in a quick disconnect coupling arrangement. With the lamp end caps easily removed and all lamp circuitry disposed within the center channel with the removable cover, lamp maintenance is facilitated and lamp circuitry and wiring is protected during use.

Portable work light or the like

An economical string light includes a molded socket or base having an integral hook for attaching to a messenger wire for support and first and second insulation-displacement connectors for coupling to the electrical power wires. The lamp guard is formed of two identical protector elements which have a coupling collar for connecting to each other and to a retainer flange on the socket. The protector elements are hinged from the coupling collar to open in a clamshell fashion to facilitate lamp replacement, and the protection elements couple together with snap couplers to form the complete lamp guard.

String lights for construction sites

A power distribution center for use at marinas, trailor camps and the like includes a housing adapted to receive power feed cable from an external power source, the cables being connected to terminal blocks mounted within the housing and to which are connected terminals of electrical receptacles mounted within the housing. The housing includes a cover which when opened provides access to the receptacles. A light source including a diffusing lens mounted within the upper portion of the housing is effective to illuminate the front portion of the housing both when the cover is closed and when it is opened. The housing and cover are of a corrosion resistant synthetic material, and internal metallic brackets and plates which mount the terminals, receptacles and light source are electrically connected to the ground terminal which provides a unitized ground on a single ground lug.
